Stan Grant joins SKY News

CNN anchor Stan Grant has signed with SKY News as International Editor and to host a new nightly program in 2013.

CNN anchor Stan Grant has signed with SKY News as International Editor and to host a new nightly program in 2013.

He returns after 11 years with CNN, most recently as its Beijing-based correspondent.

The new show, Newsnight, is described as “a fast paced news hour focusing on both Australian national affairs and a special focus on world affairs and in particular the Asian region.” The Sydney-based programme will feature Australian newsmakers and others from across the region and around the world.

Australian News Channel Chief Executive, Angelos Frangopoulos, said: “We are delighted to welcome Stan back home to Australia and honoured to have him on the SKY NEWS team. Newsnight is a program especially designed to highlight his rich experience and talents as an outstanding reporter and interviewer.

“He joins an impressive line up of journalists including David Speers, Kieran Gilbert, Ashleigh Gillon, Peter Van Onselen, Celina Edmonds and Helen Dalley who lead the team behind Australia’s News Channel.

Stan Grant added: “It’s great to come home and an exciting time to join SKY News. SKY News has established itself as the broadcaster of record, it has enormous reach and influence particularly in politics and national affairs and I’m proud to part of the team. CNN opened an amazing world to me, now I get to share it with our own audience.”

Newsnight will air at 11pm weeknights from January 28, 2013.

  1. Sky News Australia doesn’t even have many (any?) foreign bureaux. ABC Australia has over a dozen. ‘Newsnight’ will, I assume, just use Sky UK stories.

  2. Agree. 11pm is switch-off time for those who haven’t already. “The new show, Newsnight”, as opposed to the old show “News Night”, as in the old Channel 7 news progran “News Night”, or the BBC’s “Newsnight”, or the proposed “TEN Newsnight”. Wow. Such creativity.
” “It’s great to come home and an exciting time to join SKY News. SKY News has established itself as the broadcaster of record, it has enormous reach”. Really? Win any Walkleys? ABC News24 has waaaaaaaay more reach. Sky reaches 1.5m households but is one of 200+ channels. ABC24 reaches 8m households and is one of 15 channels.

  3. Why is it SKY News? Shouldn’t it be just Sky News? Though I’m sure it’s how the Sky PR people refer to the channel, Sky is a word, not an acronym.
