Whether axed by networks, not-renewed, or had the pin pulled by the creatives themselves, here are the shows that we’ll remember, and more than a few we’ll happily forget.

  1. Damages was brilliant, but a logical time to end. Dexter will be sad when it finishes, but the actors must be wanting to move on.
Shameless went a few seasons too long and why they kept adding eps to each season was weird as the story lines were really lank in some areas.

  2. Channel 4 (in the UK) have announced that this year’s series of Shameless will be the last.
With so many of the original cast now gone, and the story-lines getting ever more fantastical, there have been a lot of comments in the UK saying that the show has ‘jumped the shark’, so it’s probably for the best that it is going.
SBS are still a few years behind in their coverage though so we’ll probably still be watching it in 2015.

    “Scatter!”

  3. I miss Letters and Numbers and The Circle too.

Thanks for the reminder of So You Think You Can Dance US results show. I was trying to figure out why they had it all in one.

  4. Pretty sure Damages was announced in 2011. It’s always tricky to know whether to wrap these when they are announced or when they actually leave Aus screens.

And yes, Beverly did confirm IWS end.

    Shameless is UK.

Some other titles there I had forgotten, thanks.

  5. The Office is ending in 2013 as well.

RIP to Dexter this year, been an awesome run 🙁

Glad House ended in 2012 as well. Brilliant show that had done its time.

  6. David I thought in your interview with Beverley McGarvey on 29th October she confirmed I Will Survive is gone? “It’s fairly obvious that we won’t be doing shows like The Shire and I Will Survive. Some other shows we haven’t decided yet.”
On another note, it’s sad Dexter is coming to an end this year.

  7. I loved all the following and it’s going to be sad to see them go: House, Terra Nova, Alcatraz, CSI: Miami, A Gifted Man, Victorious, Fairly Legal, Emily Owens MD, Leverage, The Secret Life of an American Teenager, Merlin, and Private Practice. At least House & CSI Miami were given an ending that didn’t leave any unanswered questions, unlike Terra Nova, A Gifted Man, etc. Very happy to see Unforgettable has been given another season, even though they are only keeping 3 original characters and ditching the rest. Hopefully The Amazing Race Australia is renewed as it is the best Aussie reality series on TV!

  8. With Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s habit of culling their own shows while they’re still popular, were ‘An Idiot Abroad’ & ‘ The Ricky Gervais Show’ genuinely axed, or have the creators just moved onto new projects?

  9. You know, after a week or three of sitting through the gormless-grin-fest that is Today, or listening to Kochie’s pious pontifications… I am actually starting to miss Breakfast. More thyan anything I miss a weather presenter who isn’t attempting to double as a clown.

The ABC offering is ok, but it’s a tad on the ‘dry’ side.

  10. Your original list has omitted the excellent and underrated series Damages, which aired the fifth and final season in the second half of 2012. I for one will certainly miss the quality writing and acting.

  11. Really gonna miss some of these shows, especially Men of a Certain age which I’ve only just begun watching thanks to foxtel, it was definitely cut short. Cougar Town was another on the ‘axed but rescued’ pile too.
