The guide to Hamish Macdonald

TEN is getting a little carried away with its rapture for Hamish Macdonald.

hamishTEN is getting a little carried away with its rapture for Hamish Macdonald.

The promos and publicity for Macdonald have certainly made it known he is the network golden boy, while others have been shown the exit door.

But now it’s even extended into programming guide synopses, as evidenced by the latest info for the return of TEN Late News:

TEN Late News, hosted by acclaimed correspondent Hamish Macdonald, delivers the most up to date news & commentary.
Hermoine Kitson presents the news headlines and Brad McEwan has all the latest sport.

No disputing his achievements, or even his future, given he won a Walkley Award last year.

Other networks don’t see the need to tell us about “acclaimed Laurie Oakes” or “acclaimed Leigh Sales” all the time.

And what does it say about Hermoine Kitson and Brad McEwan?

I realise he has his own show coming this year but I hope this kind of thing doesn’t do more harm than good.

Better to just get on with the business of news.

10:30pm Monday January 28 on TEN.

  1. Ten are slowly re-assembling the “chosen Ones”(minus a ‘Henry’ Type as yet) such as Bolt, Macdonald, Price and albeit, to an easily led lessor extent Hughe, also McSween in popping up everywhere these days, giving a good spread of the popular hours during any one day.

Obviously chosen by some of Ten’s Influential Shareholders with very obvious political Vested Interests, apart from the “Chosen Ones” commentary/interviewing styles,(biased/rude/comedic ?), to me the dead giveaway is their regular guests(paid panelists?) or the target of much researched and time consuming reasearch(by just how many I wonder?)

Is Ten’s moto for 2013 “Lets join with our competing Networks, to Elect The Government We Want To Get Elected”?.

  2. Carried away with Just Hamish Macdonald? what about carried away with the wall to wall promotion for Masterchef? you couldnt escape it …. every ad break, the trailer at the bottom of any other program last night …….

  3. By accident found myself watching Nine’s 4:30 News. Amelia someone started a story “It may not last long but Labor’s had a big increase in the opinion polls…” (or similar). Can we just have news from someone without editorialising and surmising? Don’t get me started on their stupid graffiti.
Really hate the way “news” is presented these days.

  4. It’s actually quite sickening. Again, not taking anything away from Hamish, but it’s Ten who are the ones doing most of the acclaiming.

Clearly, Brad McEwan has just been window dressing all these years and you would think that Ten’s publicity dept could at least spell Herm*io*ne Kitson’s name correctly.

I haven’t watched Ten News since they took Sandra off the Late News. Newsflash Ten: golden boy will not be your saviour – your problems run much deeper (and higher).

  5. I wonder how many weeks Hamish will actually present, especially given his upcoming show. Matt Doran hosted many more nights than Hamish last year, with little explaination to viewers as to why.

Personally I think Matt Doran fits the style anyway

  6. Well put David… he’s a very engaging and thoroughly likeable presenter but let’s not get too carried away just get… he’s still relatively ‘new’ if we’re being honest.
As an aside, not only will ‘Ten Late News’ been on ‘summer vacation’ for more than a month when it returns but – I’m fairly sure – Hamish Macdonald hasn’t done any presenting duties for at least a month (plus?) before it went off-air around early-to-mid December. Strange also there’s no show on Friday nights… presumably purely for budgetary reasons as no-one’s seriously suggesting there’s no news on Fridays, are they?!
