Auditions: Big Brother 2013

Nine has announced Big Brother auditions and is openly campaigning for a broader mix of contestants this year.

Sonia-21Nine has announced Big Brother auditions for 2013 and (thankfully) is openly campaigning for a broader mix of contestants this year.

Host, Sonia Kruger said: “We would like to see a broader spread of Housemates in 2013 in terms of age, background, profession and life experience. Whether you are a company CEO or unemployed, a full-time parent or a stockbroker, teacher or tradie, the Big Brother doors are open to all. After all, more people have been shot into space than have entered the Big Brother House. It is truly a unique and life-changing challenge.”

The show is also welcoming video auditions for those who cannot visit the auditions in city centres. Select video candidates will have expenses covered to round 2 of auditions.

Karen Dewey, Nine Network’s Head of Factual and Reality, said: “If Housemates think they know what to expect they should think again. Big Brother is completely changing the house and adding new rules.”

And speaking of changing the house, is there anything to be read in this Press Release headline: “Audition tour plus video applications hold the key to all who harbour a secret fantasy to live in the Big Brother house.”

Let the conspiracy theories begin…..

Big Brother is ready to cast his all-seeing eye over Australia again and his tour for 2013 has been planned with one thing in mind – leave no stone unturned.

Following the success of last year’s audition tour for Housemates, Big Brother will once again be touring the country to give everyone a chance to have face-time with the producers.

Those wanting to audition for Big Brother will need to register online in advance at www.bigbrother.com.au. To accommodate those who work business hours, this year Big Brother has extended hours into the evening for weekday auditions.

VIDEO AUDITIONS
This year, for those who live more than 500km from any audition venue, Big Brother extends an invitation to audition via video application only. Successful remote applicants will have travel expenses covered in the second phase of the audition process.

FAST-TRACK YOUR WAY THROUGH THE AUDITIONS
As an additional incentive for people wanting to give themselves the best possible shot at becoming a Housemate in 2013, Big Brother is setting a challenge: From your own Diary Room at home (be it in a paddock, the bathroom or kitchen) send a video that starts “Hello Big Brother” and explains why you will be the perfect housemate for the 2013 season of the show. Every video will be watched, yet only a handful of fast-track entries will be granted, which for the lucky few means no lining up and straight into a face-to-face audition.

Big Brother reassures that not being fast-tracked does not mean an unsuccessful application. Everyone serious about Big Brother should attend the audition day and show producers why they would make a great Housemate.

Big Brother Executive Producer, Alex Mavroidakis, said: “The most important ingredient in a successful Big Brother is always the Housemates. In 2012, we found some amazing characters. And this year we have tweaked the process to ensure anyone in the country, no matter where they live, can be part of Big Brother 2013.”

To apply for Big Brother, Housemates need only one magic quality … the ability to embrace the experience. No skills or qualifications are needed. You don’t have to cook, you don’t need to renovate, and you don’t need to sing or dance. All you need to be is yourself.

  1. I just hope we get more “real” this season. It was in the promos last year but the only time we see real is when it is live and unedited. The closest we got to this was the “Big Secrets” special near the end of the 2012 season.

There needs to be a live stream again, whether that is online or incorporated into a TV programme multiple times per week is up to Nine. If going the TV show route, then it makes sense to do this after the Sunday evictions and Monday nominations at least.

Some people say that the housemates last year weren’t diverse etc. Whilst that is mostly true, we never got to see “them”. We only saw an edited version of them and day’s events.

I’d like to see Uplate return, but maybe the powers that be don’t want to. Nine could try a new show if they wanted to and, I think, as long as the show was built around live house footage, just as both Uplate and FNL were, they will have a winner.

Oh and, bring back the eviction plank!

  2. For those who are asking about FNL, uplate, etc. On the radio broadcast with Sonia this morning, when asked whether or not we would see an all stars or celebrity edition, she responded with, “we have some programs coming later in the year.” There’s your hint.

  3. HeyHey_Variety

They should be able to. Its not like the show involves skydiving or anything. If they don’t consider disable contestant that is close to (if it isn’t) discrimination.

  4. Here’s hoping they were able to organise Uplate or a copy of it on regularly this time around.

@ryan1980 – I guess if you’re far away from an audition venue, that is when you can do a video application.

  5. I fairly enjoyed this last season. There was some decent casting.

The most annoying thing was that I could not stand how mean the guy that won was. I know mods probably won’t accept this post because of this.

However I clearly think there was a massive amount of social bullying going on last year. The interesting thing is how so many people watching didn’t pick it up or care. Then even jumped in supporting the bad behavior.

I hated the prevailing attitude that if you weren’t friends with someone you could treat them badly.

I know lots of people say this wasn’t going on. However frankly it was and it was disgusting. Can’t wait to turn in this year again though!

  6. Perhaps they can cut out the blatantly false and misleading promos such as last year’s which featured bodybuilding champ Lee Priest who was nowhere to be seen when the show actually began.

  7. So they want a bigger mix of people but are still holding auditions on the Gold Coast and in Newcastle? If Newcastle people wanted to audition they could drive up the road to Sydney, likewise with the Gold Coast. No auditions in the Northern Territory or Tasmania but auditions on the GC and in Newie?
