Report: Sandy Roberts to wait out Seven contract

Speculation that Sandy Roberts will join FOX Footy after

2013-02-07_0042The Herald Sun has qualified its incorrect report on Sandy Roberts from Tuesday which said he was leaving Seven for FOX Footy.

Today it reports it “seems certain he will find a new home at FOX Footy” when his Seven contract expires.

It claims he tendered his resignation to Seven on Tuesday but is required to fulfill his contract reading Sport on Seven News.

This could still fit with his brief statement that “I am continuing with Seven as per my contract.”

He also said, “Reports that I have a deal with FOX Footy are inaccurate – nor have they made me an offer.”

Peter Ford claimed lawyers were brought in on Tuesday to discuss contracts.

TV Tonight understands Roberts did not talk to Seven about his future until Tuesday afternoon, despite the front page story on Tuesday morning. His contract is understood to have several more months to run.

In theory there’s nothing to prevent a shared role of News with Seven and AFL commentary with FOX, similar to Eddie McGuire on two networks.

A FOX Footy spokesperson also told TV Tonight they had no comment at the moment….

  1. Yes very good point oztvheritage. The whole thing is still puzzling though! One part that doesn’t add up was in Sandy’s daily cross to SEN radio on Tuesday where he said, “It’s news to me!” Was he saying that to cover it up or did he mean it?

  2. I think the difference here is….both seven and Fox have AFL. So they are competitors is some way.

There is an agreement between both parties – Sandy calls non Victorian Teams for Fox which will be seen in non Victorian states on 7.

  3. No comment from Fox = things are happening.

I agree with you David, there is an opportunity for both to happen. Many TV presenters have radio gigs calling football, so why can’t a sports presenter call footy, which he does extremely well? Hope it’s resolved sensibly.

  4. So what should have simply been a change of jobs is dragged out into a soapie style saga due to initial lousy journalism. It must have been a slow news day when the infamous HS put this story out….
