ABC seeking docos on the family

ABC is calling for one-off documentary ideas from filmmakers for a season on the Family, and the Future of Family in Australia.

2013-03-11_2336ABC TV Factual is calling for one-off documentary ideas from filmmakers for a season on the Family, and the Future of Family in Australia for ABC1.

ABC TV Head of Factual Phil Craig said “The family is the most successful of all human institutions and we’re endlessly fascinated by it. So many of our most passionate conversations come back to family – what we love about them and what we hate, what we’d change and what we treasure – and so many of our most divisive political and social arguments directly impact upon it. That’s why we want to explore this time-honoured but constantly evolving institution through the eyes of Australia’s most talented filmmakers”.

“We’re looking to create a season for filmmakers who have something powerful and important to say, and we’re looking for a range of styles and voices that will engage a prime-time audience on ABC1 and really get people talking,” said Craig.

The subject of Family and the Future of Family in Australia is deliberately broad: critical to the assessment criteria will be the strength of the central idea, and the creative approach for bringing it alive for the Australian prime-time audience.

ABC Factual will welcome concept pitches of approximately 2-3 pages, including a short statement about the online potential of the idea.

Proposal synopses should be sent to ABC Factual:
