This one is written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, Dark City, Blade, FlashForward) and is a collaboration between Starz and BBC Worldwide.

British actor Tom Riley (Monroe, Arcadia) stars in the title role with Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie, Upstairs Downstairs, Strikeback) plays Lucrezia Donati, the mistress of Lorenzo Medici and Da Vinci’s lover.

“Given that Da Vinci was the model for the Renaissance Man, these were incredibly large shoes to fill,” commented Goyer. “Leonardo had to be smart, witty, and incredibly confident. He also had to be tormented, because as a true visionary and polymath he was ostracised for his ideas as much as he was celebrated. Tom came in and was able to effortlessly combine all of those elements.”

It has its debut World Premiere TV Screening at MIPTV in Cannes, France.

Artist. Inventor. Anarchist. Womaniser. From the writer of The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man Of Steel comes the secret history of the greatest genius the world has ever known. Ruled by the demons who drive his intellect and the dangerous embraces of his patron’s mistress, the young Leonardo Da Vinci’s lives on a knife’s edge.

Tuesdays at 7.30pm from April 16 on FX.

  1. totally of the topic but any idea if any Australian networks have plans to air any of the following…

    Partners.
    Guys With Kids.
    Baby Daddy.
    The New Normal.

  2. Da vinci despised the company of women. He never ever had a girlfriend, mistress or wife and was notorious for having pretty boys at his art studio. He was arrested for sodomy and only got off due to the Medici family protecting him. This once again is a complete re-write of history.

  3. The first collaboration between the BBC and Starz was actually with Torchwood: Miracle Day. Da Vinci’s Demons was only made possible due to a new co-production agreement between the BBC and Starz after the production of Torchwood: Miracle Day.
