Big Brother producers are actively encouraging older Australians to apply for this year’s series, with not one but two articles in the Sunday papers today.
That’s because auditions get underway in Perth on Thursday, but if people over the age of 40 don’t put their hand up, then not very much will change.
Alex Mavroidakis tells Fairfax, ”I would say 90 per cent of the people who auditioned last year were under 24, which is fine, and there’s always going to be a place for the young people. But it’s a real misconception that Big Brother is a young person’s show.”
”I guess in an absolute ideal world, you’d have two people over 40, maybe four or five in their 30s and maybe six in their 20s. That feels like a good mix,” he said.
He also tells News Limited, “The truth of the matter is we are looking for a broader mix in terms of age and profession, everyone from CEOs to unemployed, from teachers to tradies.
“It needs to be broader, but that’s a symptom of who turned up at the auditions. We are not deaf, we do listen to the criticism and it is justified.”

I like BB I think it’s a great show! and if anyone wants to apply then it’s thier choice it doesn’t make them less of who they are regardless of age etc! This year they are making changes to having a broader mix as they know they got it wrong last year-time will tell as I’m sure they want more ratings this year. The show is fun and enjoyable as the ratings speak for themselves hence it’s back again 🙂 Ch 9 have a great team to keep this show back on track for good.
I cant see too many older people agreeing
As long as there’s no nonsense rigging like they did with that boring, adds nothing to the show Terri. Someone will leave and not come back! “Bye bye Terri”
Producers go, ‘crap we wanted out old person.’ They scramble and have a task where she can rejoin the house. She then fails that task. They then let her stay anyway.
Then in the final, Ben had more votes. So they kept the lines open and started showing the percentages with names. Even after they were like, ‘we’re not showing them again.’ Then when she still wasn’t winning, they were literally telling people to vote for her, showing the percentages again and shut the lines when she won. Was horrible.
If they go older, they need a better spread of generations. Some token idiot older people won’t work. Niether will boring older people. However you don’t want d***head, moronic ones. I still remember that horrible guy that would pick on that dear sweet idiot girl that had all her possessions taken off her.

Well they can’t really be blamed if the only people going for auditions to be on the show are ‘vapid gits’ and young people.
Anyone who auditions for BB must have Narcissistic Personality Disorder and no career or relationships.
Any 40 year old who applies is going to already be a total failure.
Looks like Nine also bought the rights to Ten’s promotional strategy when they got BB. Just about every season’s audition process has begun with ‘we’re looking for a broader mix of people this time, no really they’ll be interesting…’ and yet still ends up with the same bunch of vapid gits.
Why would anyone over the age of 40 or even 30 be interested in being involved in such a stupid programme is beyond me. Understand the younger generation, as they find all those type of reality shows interesting, but what they gain from it I don’t I fail to see, glad that I am not a teenager any more.
I can’t imagine anyone of moderate intelligence would ever dream of being on this program. Most people would have matured a little by the time they get to 30, let alone over 40.
At the risk of repeating myself, someone who wants to be on BB, let alone watch it, would not get recruited by the Sydney Swans. And I don’t care how old they are.
I have my doubts. Didn’t they say that last year too? Weren’t they also supposedly going to have no attention seeking bimbos? 😆
Well, I’m in my 50’s but will not be auditioning for Big Brother. I love watching it but don’t want to be on it. And anyway, Meat Loaf is going to be touring with his farewell tour in the US at around that time and I am not going to be missing that for anything!!!!!
