The Agony of Life: Mar 13

This week Yumi Stynes opens up about her that time on The Circle, and Kate Langbroek talks about breastfeeding on The Panel live.

26agThis week on The Agony of Life, Yumi Stynes opens up about her explosive time on The Circle in 2012, and Kate Langbroek talks about the time she made international headlines when she breastfed her son Louis on The Panel live.

Career and career‐legacy is something that dominates our thinking and our Aunts and Uncles are successful enough to tell you how to have a fulfilling career, remain calm under pressure, and maintain a sensible work‐life balance.

But what about the more difficult questions of how to maintain dignity when sacked, reach the top without screwing other people over, and surviving a workplace or public scandal with as much grace as possible? We know the Aunts and Uncles have a handle on most things, but would they be able to run a country? And do they have any desire to?

  1. PJs, she suffered death threats and some of the most extensive and high-profile social/media abuse this country has seen. I think she’s aware of how damaging her comments were to many.

She apologised publicly and spoke with Ben Roberts-Smith personally, who said they were not damaging to him at all.

And it’s safe to say her career has also been damaged by this.

I will also note that Fairfax and News Limited, after threats of legal action, have removed assertions that Stynes and Negus insulted Ben Roberts-Smith’s manhood, both agreeing that the comments were taken out of context.

In Negus’ case, he prefaced his “up to it in the sack comment” with “nothing about poor old Ben”, indicating he was not speaking personally about BRS. He has consistently maintained this. However the word “nothing” was partially obscured by co-host Gorgi-Coghlan speaking over him, leading…

  2. The problem with stynes is that she has absolutely no idea how damaging her comments about Roberts-Smith were. And, like the rest of the ‘mouth with a mike’ fraternity (sandilands, negus, greig, christian, jones (alan) etc) she hid behind manufactured innocence and feigned indignation all the while supported by station/company execs who fervently launched in to bottom line damage control.

All the while the news/media organisations scream “censorship” whenever governments/citizenry mention anything that would call these ‘commentators’ to account. stynes et al should be held fully responsible for their words/action and not be rewarded with paid holidays before returning to the public eye as if nothing happened.
