The Mole: promo

Video: Seven has released a promo for its "dirty, rotten" Mole, hosted by Shura Taft.

Seven has released a promo for its “dirty, rotten” Mole, hosted by Shura Taft.

Presumably this means it will be airing post-Easter.

Looks like this is our first glimpse of the teams.

  1. So they’re clearly trying to promote it similarly in tone to My Kitchen Rules… except it completely misses the actual tone and nature of ‘The Mole’. Nice job Seven.

  2. Wow, that was pretty crap, found myself waiting for “boing”sound effect and canned laughter to kick in. Looks like a cross between an oversaturated Packed To The Rafters promo and a cheap Reese Mastin film clip. Hopefully they haven’t screwed the format or scrimped on budget.

  3. I so desperately want this to be awesome coz The Mole is one of my all time favourite shows, but I agree with Craig that they seem to have MKR’d it. Please keep the darkness and be more aligned with the original, not the Tom Williams version.

  4. I think a lot of the problem is that it – somehow, and I’m not sure how – simultaneously manages to be both too light-hearted and too mean-spirited. Plus all the extras are acting with the subtlety of a Harold Zoid film, which is about as wrong as you can get when the entire show is about being secretive.

If it was me, I’d probably have taken some clips of brief sabotages from past seasons – maybe some from the foreign versions as well to keep the mystery – and openly wondered if the audience was smart enough to figure it out again. This ad is just lowest common denominator dreck that doesn’t work on any level.

  5. No! No! No! They have MKR’d ‘The Mole’!!!! It was always so dark, mysterious and sophisticated and now it’s reduced to some tacky side show alley style game.

  6. Odd promo, but my bigger concern is the show. The last season was terrible with the ‘live’ voting and letting contestants go home during the week.

    Hopefully not again this season…

  7. I agree with SnideAsides. I thought the same thing when i saw the ad the other night. I loved The Mole back in the day (pre Tom Williams), and was really looking forward to it coming back. But the ads are just plain crap. Doesn’t sell it well at all. Especially for a new audience.

  8. Loved the mole in the day. Everyone got pretty excited that it was being revisted , I was one of those people.

Problem with recreating old shows is TV has moved on – the standard is better, peoples tastes have changed.

It can be a very fine line between a pleasure and painful.

  9. I saw a promo for The Mole last night, I think during MKR. Totally forgot it was coming back, but I used to love it and it brought back happy memories, so hopefully it’s an well-made series.

  10. Wow, that’s an Awful decision to promote this show like that. Either they keep the slapstick tone and the people who liked the old version will hate the show, or they revert to the more dramatic tone the old version had and the new viewers who tuned in for slapstick comedy will be annoyed.

I really want this show to succeed, but with that ad? It’ll be lucky to see out the entire season.
