Valerie Harper diagnosed with brain cancer

Actress from Rhoda and The Mary Tyler Moore Show told she has just months to live.

2013-03-07_0147US actress Valerie Harper, best known as ‘Rhoda’ in the classic sitcoms The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda, says she has incurable brain cancer and just several months to live.

Harper, 73, received the diagnosis pf leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a terminal condition where cancer cells spread into the membrane surrounding the brain, on Jan. 15, with doctors telling her that she has as little as three months left.

In 2009, she defeated lung cancer.

“I don’t think of dying,” she tolf People magazine. “I think of being here now.”

“I’m well past my expiration date already.

“I’ve a good run, what more can I ask for?”

  1. That is awful news. She is one of my favourite actresses from the 70’s and 80’s. Rhoda was simply a classic character and Valerie imbued her with such spirit and humanity and so so funny.
    Very sad.

People are so brave, and determined to battle, as they face the end.Good on you ms harper.Maybe my favorite 1/2 hour of tv..chuckles the clown episode..shucked to death by an elephant dressed as peter peanut..could have been worse..coulda gone as billy banana and been peeled to death by a monkey..classic.

  3. How sad, that’s terrible news, always loved her in the TV show “Valerie” and a whole host of 70’s and 80’s made for TV movies. Our thoughts will be with her.
