2013-04-24_1017Monday night’s Australian Story features the untold personal story of whistle-blowing Detective Chief Inspector Peter Fox, the man credited with sparking the Royal Commission into institutional sexual abuse of children.

This week’s episode tells the story of a police officer whom many hail as a hero.

After a career dedicated to solving murders and other crimes, Detective Chief Inspector Peter Fox rose to national prominence late last year for his major role in triggering the Prime Minister’s historic decision to establish a far-reaching Royal Commission into the sexual abuse of children in institutions.

Call of Duty features exclusive footage of Peter Fox in the final minutes leading up to this momentous whistle-blowing decision – which, as he describes it, may well have seen him “self-destruct”.

This not the first time he has stood up for victims of crime. But Peter Fox also has enemies.

The program gives a new insight into a lifetime of policing that led to his controversial decision to defy police rules, and speak out.

8pm Monday on ABC1.

One Response

  1. As a committed RC, I am disgusted and disappointed with the shockingly inadequate response by senior clergy who tried to cover up the abuse by clergy. Also, the police seem to have been totally inadequate at best, if not guilty of turning a blind eye to the sexual abuse of children. Who can be trusted then? Apparently Peter Fox, who courageously took on the role of whistleblower, and to whom we should be enormously grateful, is the hero of many decades for his stance. I nominate him as “Australian of the Year”, so much more worthy than any sports person! Thank you, Peter Fox, you are a man among men, and certainly my hero!
