Gold Logie winner leaked (again)

Time to go Live. For the second year in a row the Gold Logie winner was leaked.

2013-04-07_2247For the second year in a row the Gold Logie winner was leaked, and for the second year in a row it was published by News Limited.

The mishap this year came via The Australian but was republished by other newspapers as seen here with a publish time of 8:45pm.

The leak is understood to have been a publication error as a result of print newspapers getting the results early in order to meet print deadlines.

It didn’t take long to start circulating through Twitter.

Last year Hamish Blake’s win was known in the room before it had been announced on stage.

Last night’s broadcast went on so long that the official Press Release sent at 11:59pm was out there before Asher Keddie had been announced as winner on air, which didn’t happen until around 12:20am.

The Australian later republished it at 12:27am.

The ongoing problems in a delayed event trying to function against live social media and publication errors will once again compel organisers to broadcast the Logies live.

We can see Oscars, Emmys, Tonys and Grammys live from America but we can’t see our own awards. The days of delaying this live so that print newspapers can get the winners early to meet deadlines are over. We’re all reading our news online anyway.

TV Week must move with the times.

  1. Seriously people, does anyone really care? The logies are nothing but egotistical advertising from a bygone age. There are several traits that are never awarded/rewarded… like accuracy. At their own awards show the ‘industry’ can’t even end the program on time.

  2. Clearly there are leak problems of odds move from $11 to 1.33 in an hour. How can such an award be credible if 1) people in the room find out the winner before the winner does? 2) when ch9 constantly show bias towards their own programming and 3) the winner is announced on tv after midnight on a Sunday night? Do you really expect people to stay up and wait if they can find out at a much more appropriate time?

Brian Henderson reminded us all how much the credibility of journalism has declined in this country. Could you imagine Hendo telling us on Friday what we will see on Sunday’s news? Or reminding us of the exclusive footage that was half covered in exclusive signage. It’s all gone down the sink hole.

  3. “TV Week must move with the times.”

Two problems there. Your talking about a company that still prints news on dead trees and distributes it in such a way that it’s not news by the time you read it, and you’re also talking about Australian television (and, in particular, Nine) an industry not exactly known for moving with the times.

The Logies should be broadcast live to the eastern states (and prob SA) or don’t bother.

  4. The problem with your theory @seriouslysquare is that the ratings aren’t determined by a select few. If you don’t have a ratings box, which the majority of Australians don’t, then what you’re watching doesn’t count.

  5. And i am not surprised by this. They should be allowed to leak the winners. Its poor form on Nine’s part for showing a 3 hour delay of the telecast if you ask me. Why can America, the UK and everywhere else in the World show a live telecast of their award ceremonies and we get a delayed broadcast. Oh wait i forgot we are talking about Channel 9 here. They are proned for delayed telecasts. IMO the Logies need to jump ship for a fresh look and go Live next year. If that happens thats another story.

  6. The Logies are in need of a major overhaul, the Logies “most popular” needs to be retitled, after all the winners may not be “most popular” they should be “the Peoples choice”. most popular to me would be the shows that have the ratings.

most outstanding awards should be awarded first and fast, then allow for the more relaxed peoples choice awards to go threw.

the most popular cat should just be 1 award. most popular program. the award is decided on the highest average audience numbers.

why is there not cat for teen programming, music programming, most outstanding journalist, most outstanding presenter, etc.

  7. It’s actually the third year in a row. Stefanovic’s win was leaked too. According to many in attendance the leak occurred prior to the winner being announced in the room so a live telecast would make no difference. However, announcing the gold winner at 1220am is ridiculous. The over the top number of commercials and meaningless interviews prior to commercials only annoy viewers.

  8. At least this year they aren’t blaming the “Googles” for back-tracing the data before it’s published.

Still a stupid, stupid mistake to be made.

  9. I think it’s a bit rich to blame “publication errors” for these occurences. That aside, you’re right David – indeed, organisers should take the plunge on a live telecast commencing immediately after the 6.00pm news on the eastern seaboard.

  10. The idea of milking the Logie-ratings-cow for every point is ridiculous. Get it together Nine. Running way past midnight and being on an ever-increasing delay just wrecks the whole night.

  11. I was 99% sure Asher had won it last Friday! When her odds on Sportsbet went from $11.00 to 1 to $1.33 to 1 within the space of an hour! So clearly someone In the know is betting!

  12. Maybe Nine was pissed none of their ‘talent’ won the Gold Logie?

I agree, why is it just about every major international awards shows is shown live here but Nine can’t do it with the Logies?

  13. Absolutely agree. I didn’t make it to the end and I’m now fairly certain my recording won’t have gotten it all – would have thought half an hour extra would have been enough but nope.

  14. Yeah, they should. I only saw one Tweet with the winners name, then cam the rumour it was a hoax, so wasn’t sure if it was real or not. Then there were all the jokes about it. I missed it last year, so mustn’t follow whoever leaked it.
