More rumours on new breakfast offering at TEN

James Mathison is linked to TEN's new breakfast offering whether he likes it or not.

2013-05-25_0225There is speculation today that TEN could launch its next breakfast TV offering in the fourth quarter of the year.

But Adam Boland told News Limited, “We honestly haven’t made a decision about an on air date.”

If the show is on air by December it could pick up some traction over summer, when hosts on rival programmes start taking holidays.

Boland is also developing a partner morning programme for TEN (despite the network foolishly dumping The Circle last year).

Former Australian Idol co-host James Mathison is said to be among early contenders to host the new breakfast show, chasing 18-49 year olds.

Mathison was one of the 5 names originally announced as part of the core team for The Project.

  1. Yes!! OMG yes! James Mathison rules. We still talk about him, love him. So good because the other two breaksfast shows are the same newsy boring people that are a yawn to watch. The news should be interesting!!!!!!

  2. Mathison could be great. Really depends who he is paired up with though, but it could work. Always been a bit of a fan but it would need to not just be a sunrise/today clone. The format is tired!!

  3. James Mathison. Finally 10!! What a host to crack the morning spot with. Shake things up a bit. Do it differently – rival the other two programs. I personally think James is the perfect fit for a lighter entertainment based morning show. He’s intelligent, he’s quick witted, and he is very watchable. I know I wouldn’t be alone in tuning in if he was the host. Go ten!!

  4. James Mathison is hilarious but he’s at his best when he’s free to speak his mind, rather than with the rigidity of hosting duties. And yes, he and Yumi Stynes would make an awesome duo. That said, I can’t really imagine a youth-skewing Breakfast program…It’d have to be a really creative idea.

  5. 10 points for trying TEN. However, my choice is Gretel Killeen for the female role, with James Mathison may be a good team. A bit of a Demi Moore/ Ashton Kutcher chemistry lol

  6. CraigW I don’t think ten would go with Sandra Sully and even less likely John Mangos as they do not appeal to the demographic ten is targeting this program towards. Here’s a wild card-Rove McManus although I think he is unlikely to take up the role as he is now based in LA doing his new talk show, which by the way is disgusting.

  7. Ten should just replicate The Project for the mornings. The AM Project anyone??? Great alternative, consistent, light and funny. Obviously they couldn’t use the same talent, but definitely a core of the team.

  8. I wonder if Sandra Sully would take on Breakfast as a new challenge? She might measure up well against Lisa or Mel.

Perhaps John Mangos can be poached to come across?

  9. Ten – could you tell me what your anal fixation is with your ex reality program hosts is? James Matheson was a host on one of your now defunct reality programs, so knowing that it is defunct, why would you want to offer him to a demographic that is once again …. surfing the internet …… don’t you want the older demographic who will watch at this time of the day?

again – how will you repay the shareholders if this falls over? could you answer the public as well as your shareholders? …..

  10. Yumi Stynes!!!!! Was devastated when they replaced her on the 3pm Pickup with for Jane Hall

Yumi is smart and witty and has alot of edge and knowledge. I just want to see her on my TV agai

  11. to those saying that all 18 – 49 years will be at work or at uni….. don’t they all go to school and at uni while Sunrise and Today is on also? Should we axe those shows?

Ten does need a local daytime show. I don’t mind James Mathison. I hope he is signed on in some aspect.

  12. Ten should be looking Kim Watkins for either the breakfast or morning show after it! She was fantastic when she hosted 9am with david and kim!
