US serial killer series Hannibal starring Hugh Dancy has been renewed for a second season by NBC.
The Silence of the Lambs prequel by Bryan Fuller will have 13 more episodes.
Despite lukewarm numbers in Australia, in the US it is averaging a 2.0 rating in adults 18-49 and 4.7 million total viewers.
“We’re so proud of Bryan’s vision for a show that is richly textured, psychologically complex, and very compelling,” NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke said. “There are many great stories still to be told.”
Hannibal becomes only the third new series at NBC to earn a second-season pick-up joining Chicago Fire and Revolution.

@MuchoTB
You were hoping it would be axed because you don’t like it ? What about those of us who do like it ?
@GuanoLad
Continuing trend ?

It’s a prequel to the movies. The FBI get him eventually. I don’t think they are being portrayed as idiots.
@vitieddie this is actually how the Hannibal story does begin. In the book and film adaptation of Red Dragon he was a free man, working alongside the police, with them unaware of what he really is.
I disagree that it’s a case of ‘FBI as idiots’ though.
If you want to see dumb cops i’d switch over to The Following. Which is some of the laziest writing I’ve seen in some time!
But in Hannibal the FBI are doing everything pretty realistically. They have no reason to suspect Dr. Lecture and don’t have anything that leads to him. So they’re not avoiding obvious things for the sake of plot. They’re not doing anything “wrong”. They’re intelligent people being intelligently outwitted. For me that’s what makes the show interesting.
And wondering how they’re gona catch onto him!
But each to their own 🙂
One of the few mainstream network programs we are watching at my place. Beautifly shot program, stunning in HD. And love the pace and story. Glad to hear there will be a second series.
Another side effect of the show is that is portrays the FBI and heroes as idiots – in the movies “Hannibal” was at least behind bars while helping the good guys.
It’s good, not great.
I like dark and weird and creepy…:D
poss – “It falls in to the same category as Dexter to me, dark and creepy. I don’t get the whole he’s the good guy because he only kills bad people or it’s because he is so smart???”
Hannibal is not like Dexter in this regard. Dexter only kills bad people. Hannibal kills people because it is in his nature whether they are good or bad, in fact a recent episode revealed that he killed a FBI agent in training because she found out a secret of his.
It falls in to the same category as Dexter to me, dark and creepy. I don’t get the whole he’s the good guy because he only kills bad people or it’s because he is so smart???
Glad to see NBC has the guts to keep a good quality show for once. Looking forward to seeing more.
I don’t understand this continuing trend of having serial killers as anti-hero protagonists.
I’m really liking this show but it’s definitely not for everyone. The same can be said about most of Bryan Fullers’s work, I loved Pushing Daisies. This sort of reminds me of the feeling of Twin Peaks.
This show has a lot of jaw wagging and not enough action.
I dislike this show, I was hoping it would be axed. Wayyy too dark and weird
One of the regular cast members of Hannibal is Caroline Dhavernas.
She previously was the lead actor of Wonderfalls and then a regular cast member of Off The Map both of which lasted for a single season.
No doubt she is glad to be finally on a show that she got involved with at its beginning to be given a second season and I look forward to see more of her.
