2013-06-17_2253The 100th Tour de France will air on SBS later this month with exclusive, live and HD coverage -and the scenery is to die for.

SBS will show every stage of the race live (and in HD on SBS HD) as well as twice daily highlights in the morning and evening. WA viewers will the first 90 minutes live from 8pm on SBS 2 on weekends, before continuing on SBS ONE.

“The 100th edition of the Tour de France is an incredible milestone in the history of this iconic sporting event and in SBS’s 23rd year as host broadcaster, we will deliver our most comprehensive coverage to date,” says host Michael Tomalaris.

“SBS has changed the viewing habits of Australians during the month of the July as more people than ever stay up to be part of the cultural and sporting spectacle that is the Tour de France. Vive Le Tour de France on SBS.”

For the first time SBS will broadcast a live Review Panel Show on rest days and when the race has a late starting time on Stage 4 and Stage 21. Host David Basheer will be joined by former professional cyclist Henk Vogels and special guests to review and analyse all the latest action from the Tour.

SBS will also show Tour de France: The Story, a documentary that explores the 100 year history of the Tour de France, on Friday 28 June. It explores the achievements of some of the race’s biggest names including Merckx, Hinault, Bobet and Poulidor and covers the Tour’s moments of both glory and controversy.

The 2013 Tour de France is expected to be one of the most spectacular, and keenly fought in recent years. For the first time it will feature a stunning twilight finish on the Champs Elysee in Paris for the final stage. The race will also visit Corsica which will host the Grand Depart for the very first time, and include the legendary climb of Mont Ventoux, and a double ascent of the renowned Alpe d’Huez.

Australia’s Cadel Evans, the 2011 winner, will battle it out for the famed Yellow Jersey with last year’s runner-up Chris Froome, two time winner Alberto Contador, and the reigning champion Bradley Wiggins. Australia’s very own team Orica-GreenEDGE will line up on the start line searching for their first ever stage win led by Matthew Goss and Simon Gerrans.

SBS’s coverage of the 100th edition of the Tour de France will be hosted by award-winning cycling journalist Michael Tomalaris in his 18th year covering the Tour de France. He will be joined by SBS Cycling Analyst David McKenzie and former cycling world champion Kate Bates in France. Calling the race will be international voice of cycling Phil Liggett, cycling veteran Paul Sherwen and Australia’s Matt Kennan.

SBS will provide comprehensive multi-platform coverage of the Tour de France via the award-winning website, www.sbs.com.au/tdf, the SBS Social Hub and the ground-breaking interactive Tour Tracker app. All of the stages will also be available in their entirety for catch up via www.sbs.com.au/tdf and SBS On Demand.

  1. Don’t know about loosing sleep over the TDF but owning a French “white” camper van business in July each year would give me pleasant dreams..

  2. Yay, three weeks of not enough sleep most nights and catch some of it up on the rest days. Great to see that Phil and Paul are back. Hopefully they’ll have the occasional dig at each other to provide some interest in between the aerial shots of another bloody chateau.
