TEN has announced News columnist Joe Hildebrand as the second member of its upcoming panel‐based morning show.
He will join previously announced Ita Buttrose on the untitled show being developed by Adam Boland. Names for the breakfast program have not yet been released.
Hildebrand has appeared on Q & A, The Drum, The Morning Show, Paul Murray Live and fronted his own ABC2 series Dumb, Drunk and Racist. His new series, Shitsville Express begins next week.
“Joe is passionate, provocative and just a little bit odd,” Boland said. “He’s also super smart and entirely unpredictable. He’ll be right at home on this show.”
“I have done a huge amount of things in my time as a journalist, but my whole life there have only ever been two goals that really mattered to me: to appear on television with Ita Buttrose and to beat Larry Emdur at his own game. Finally with this new show, I can achieve both these dreams,” Hildebrand added.
“I’m also very excited to be working with Adam again, who is the most energetic producer in the country. Jesus might be able to turn water into wine, but only Adam Boland can turn herbal tea into Red Bull.
“That reminds me: please address all complaints to TEN.”
Both new shows are expected to air later in the year.

And yet… the ABC has commissioned two shows that he hosted… he must be doing something right…
Ugh! He is someone I can only hack in small doses.
Hope he has s shower, shave and fresh clothes
Ita yes. Joe no.
I find this guy intolerable to the point where I change the channel if he comes on the morning show or weekend sunrise when I happen to have it on.
He’s not funny, doesn’t seem particularly intelligent or even relevant, really..
I have to switch off whenever he comes on the screen. He gives off really bad vibes and is such a bad speaker, and is very, very annoying. He doesn’t know when to shut up.
He is very right wing , so Gina will love him.
This morning show now seems like a disaster.
Liked the idea of Ita….this news has just turned me off…I have seen him on The Drum…find his style annoying…just my opinion.
Good place for him….Out of sight, out of mind.
He’s good in small doses but 5 days of week of him seems a bit much to me.
Not a fan
Oh god No! This guy is bloody annoying.
If I was Adam I’d want to Launch when Mel Leaves sunrise. their will be a lot of viewers who dislike Sam and will switch to Today.
“…my whole life there have only ever been two goals that really mattered to me: to appear on television with Ita Buttrose and to beat Larry Emdur at his own game.”
Oh to have such lofty goals. So glad he will share that with us.
He’s extremely off putting. Maybe it’s because he acts like such a clown on The Morning Show.
No! He brings no actual ‘journalism experience’. I would like to see how he handled the last few days in Canberra. What do you think about this, David?
I forgot to add in my previous comment, regarding Joe Hilderbrand’s comparison between Jesus and Adam Boland’s attributes, and can only say that Adam’s will face a much easier task, than Jesus faced, as Adam only has to accomplish the ‘ Red ‘ component, because Joe Hilderbrand will supply ample amounts of the ‘ Bull ‘ component.
Seems Gina and Lochy have struck again, I feel sorry for Ita and I have much respect and admiration for her, I was also a big fan of Adam Boland, but on reflection I now recall the political direction Sunrise headed towards.
As far as Joe Hilderbrand is concerned he is nothing more to me, than a ‘ Hairier’ version of Paul Henry.
I honestly thought network Ten were fair dinkum with their hype of offering something different for us to return to and enjoy, but in gratitude towards network Ten, I thank them for the early warning and saving me the thoughts of something different look forward to.
My advice to Ita for what it is worth, is to get out of there as quickly as you can, before you lose us for all the wrong reasons, and who respect you and your own long held respect for professional journalism.
“passionate, provocative and just a little bit odd”
Sounds like they are promoting him as the new Paul Henry.
Lessons not learned?
So already, one reason not to watch this new show.
The charms of Mr Hildebrand escape me. ‘Obnoxious’ is one word that comes to mind, but that seems to be a staple of today’s TV environment.
Oh, so no more Tuesday Newsday on The Morning Show then. Larry & Kylie will miss him I’m sure. Who’s he going to poach next from ch 7?
I do enjoy Joe’s perspective on things…
really didn’t expect Hildebrand to be announced as a panellist or whatever, but now that iv’e heard it it makes sense. good job Boland
I love his appearances on The Project so he will definitely be interesting to see how he goes.
Not surprising since Channel 10 is the right wing of commercial TV.
