Report: Matt White to join Melissa Doyle in news

Plenty of change coming to Seven's news and current affairs.

2013-06-29_2347More talk today about Seven’s greater plans for its news brand with talk of Melissa Doyle to be joined by Matt White at 4.30pm on weekdays according to news.com.au.

As first revealed by TV Tonight, Doyle is also expected to front a new primetime current affairs show on 7TWO.

“A substantial amount of development is being done in the news and public affairs department,” a Seven spokesman said.

“Many of our most valued and well respected journalists and reporters will be involved. Details will be announced in forthcoming weeks.”

Chris Reason, Angela Cox and Mike Amor are also expected to be involved.

Last week Today Tonight was the target of much criticism after a bungled presentation but the show is tipped to remain until the end of the year.

Melissa Doyle recently announced her departure from Sunrise for a new national news initiative.

  1. Just read a horrible article in the paper saying that Mel was forced out of Sunrise and had to take a $150 000 a year pay cut. Wow, I wish I earned $150 000 a year. And that she and Sam have no love for each other. That’s the first I’ve heard of it. I really hope it’s not true, it’s a very shabby was to treat someone who has been a loyal and popular staff member for all those years. I feel really bad for her if that’s the case.

  2. See now this really annoys me… its the TV landscape changing people… you no longer have just 5 free to air channels… and the reaon the networks are getting serious about digital TV is that analogue switch off is happening in Sydney… now for me the Gov should have switched off the analogue in Sydney first… that way we would have seen all the other channels take more of a lead years ago… up till now they have been nursed along as supplimentry channels… big things will happen for &two & mate Gem Go Eleven One ..etc etc.. watch these channels explode with content

  3. I doubt she would leave Sunrise to host a show on 7two and I doubt seven execs would want her to be moved to a multichannel. they also wouldn’t want to give Home and Away competition, it’s number 1 in it’s time slot. (remember how well ten did by moving neighbours to 11 and brining a new prime time news program in to replace it…)

    1. Click on the link and you will see it is being reported as fact. Remember that digital switch over is complete at year’s end, so this is about networks providing viewing choices to different demos. Seven won’t win by screening the test pattern against Home and Away.

  4. I expect an announcement within the next three weeks, otherwise Mel wouldn’t have felt the need to announce her departure from Sunrise before her 4 week’s away.

    Exciting times ahead…

  5. All the more reason for someone to step in now and demand that all networks who deliberately abuse starting and finishing times, and I especially refer to the inaccuracies of their EPG settings, and the practice of immediately ending one programme and starting the next one.

I record many programmes to USB storage, and it is just so frustrating trying to juggle timer settings because of such erratic programming over multi channels and multi networks and especially when they change the same programmes between day to day starting and finishing times, this is not just me being selfish or egotistic, but a complaint that the networks seem to egotistically think we only watch their networks and only one channel, where we can easily adjust to their erratic programming, and this will still occur if we did only watch one network.

  6. @Mark W- Totally agree. Al Jazeera is the most underrated international news service. Leaves BBC & CNN for dead. Pity one has to go to Fiji or NZ to see some of their award-winning documentary programs on FTA TV.

  7. Bad move all around with this news..get better in depth stories like Al Jazeera do..(I’m not kidding)..they do amazing stories from all around the world..Matt White is a real light weight performer

  8. how about they focus on producing quality, credible news rather than just adding more news programs to an oversaturated market. I for one don’t have confidence in a bulletin reporting on this year’s X Factor finalist.

  9. Interesting that you say all those people will be involved.

But is 4.30 really ‘prime time’??? Seven News Afternoon edition (if it was to be ‘replaced’) would leave Rebecca Maddern without a job???

  10. The days of thinking primary and secondary are coming to an end and the channels really need to get serious about their digital off shoots and seven have been ahead of the curve with their use for sport. So done right the mel show could be a good point of difference … If you put on at 7 then the young ones watch home and away and your older market has an alternative to watch current affairs – for example
