Sunrise suspends Howard Sattler

Perth radio host Howard Sattler has been suspended by Sunrise following his personal questions to Julia Gillard on his radio show.

2013-06-14_0150Perth radio host Howard Sattler has been suspended by Sunrise following his personal questions to Julia Gillard on his radio show.

Sattler quizzed the Prime Minister on the sexuality of her partner, Tim Mathieson.

“But you hear it, ‘he must be gay, he’s a hairdresser,'” he asked.

“I mean Howard, I don’t know if every silly thing that gets said is going to be repeated to me now,” Gillard replied.

“To all the hairdressers out there, including the men who are listening, I don’t think in life one can actually look at a whole profession full of different human beings and say ‘gee we know something about every one of those human beings’.”

6PR management apologised to Julia Gillard and suspended Sattler.

Sattler has also made regular appearances on Sunrise.

Seven told TV Tonight, “He is suspended by Sunrise too, in line with his radio management’s decision. We will be saying this on air this morning.”

  1. So seven suspends his role on Sunrise on Friday and has him on Monday to talk about the incident.

It seems like seven thinks the public attention span is similar to that of the memory of a goldfish.

  2. @themanfromoz, from a strict religious viewpoint, yes, they are living in sin. From a secular and legal viewpoint they are in a de-facto relationship. Times change and de-facto relationships are now so common that they are considered entirely normal.

  3. Australia is not a Christian Country, – Just ask The Right and Rigidly Remorseful? and Embarrassed without Even Blushing, George Pell. – go on I dare you!

  4. I agree that Sattler went too far in his questions.
However one thing does bother me about this whole debate about her Julia Gillard and Tim Mathieson.
    Aren’t they living in sin?
As a christian country, and one that does not allow same sex marriage’ why is there no outcry about our own Prime Minister living in sin?

  5. @michael1970, thanks, I didn’t realise Sattler had already had a go at the Sydney market.

@MarkW, that scenario would be Gina Rinehart’s dream team.

@byeana, yes, when I saw Sattler on the news last night saying he was going to sue for unfair dismissal, I nearly choked on my fish and chips. Provisions for employees like unfair dismissal rights, etc, are something the right wing commentators have campaigned long and hard against. Howard’s WorkChoices was going to do away with Unfair Dismissal rights altogether. Dear God, the irony is just too much!!

  6. @ David Knox

Thank you David, but you may have given me a clue, as to how you spent some of your ‘ Hiatus’ time, and with you being so good at “Clay Pigeon and Target Shooting” but luckily its raining up my way, thus I avoided going down in flames as well, are you going to be trying out for the next Olympics?

  7. Network Seven and Sunrise have deservedly lost another of their so called unbiased guest commentators from their stable of commentators who should be unbiased, who should give us fair and balanced “Facts” and let us decide for ourselves, Ha! Ha! Ha!, sorry I was momentarily of with the fairies.

Back to the “Sattler Rattler Saga”, it has now been revealed he was about to “Host” another of those rapidly becoming, “Infamous Liberal Party Fund Raisers/Gatherings ”

Whilst he may right on his side( along with a large contingent lawyers on his other side), if he initiates “Unfair Dismissal Proceedings”( ironically, I do wonder how loudly and how often has he condemned the availability of such provisions in a labor developed Fair Work Act??) to succeed he will have to prove he was given a very open ended brief, to inflict as much damage as possible on PM Julia Gillard during his candid? interview whilst she was in W.A, with the aim to do “Anything” just as long as it “Kills The Insulting Menu Issues As Quickly as Possible”, because it is taking much longer to bury the “Menu Insults”, than it took for Eddie McQuire’s media mates, to bury his “Racial Insults”

But every cloud has a silver lining, and whilst Andrew O’Keefe may feel disappointed just now, after his back injury etc., he may take some solace, when I ask him to think, just what connotations would “Howard Sattler’s Mind Set” be conjuring up, where if he ever had the need to discredit Andrew, by asking Andrew’s family if he was Gay, after all hasn’t he been seen “Dancing,Singing and ‘ Gyrating’ ” all decked out in “Bright Red and Black Livery”, and in Howard’s mind set, that can only mean “One Thing”

  8. Sattler and Andrew Bolt and Alan Jones could co -host the new Breakfast show on Channel 10.Gina would love them all chatting together each morning….she would never disagree with anything they say

  9. @ the moops

sattler already had a go in sydney (I cant remember what station he was with it may have abeen 2gb) he didnt last long and legged it back to perth

  10. @Jezza, indeed, I agree with you. Attack her, or any other politician on their policies and their government’s performance by all means – go for it with both barrels blazing. That is what mature political discourse is all about, it is not for personal attack or snide inferences and we have seen far too much of it from the right during Gillard’s tenure. To Gillard’s credit, she handled herself exceedingly well last week, considering she had to deal with Menugate (the Julia Gillard KFC jibe which was incredibly immature and tacky) and then Sattler accusing her of being in a sham union with a homosexual male. No wonder news of Sattler’s interview has gone around the world, the lack of respect for the PM he displayed is astonishing.

  11. @ The Moops

I agree that the PM has been subjected to some appalling treatment as a result of being a female. Much of this is totally unjustified and unnecessary as her monotone style of delivery, lack of charisma, broken promises and policy failures do more than enough to condemn her as a fairly poor PM. Her background is irrelevant. I am sick of the crappy right shock jocks stuffing up on this. I mean its not everyday you get to interview the PM and then to waste the opportunity by banging on abot her partners sexuality……gimmee a break

  12. @jesicka309 Yes, of course – it has to be a stunt! And what a brilliant conspiracy theory you’ve constructed to back up your claim! I’ve never, ever seen a radio interview taped before, especially in the lead up to an election, the news bulletins aren’t full of them or anything. It has to be a stunt, carefully designed, in which Sattler played along. What a great sport for taking one for the team and losing his job over it!

  13. @jesicka309

    1) if a professional media personality seriously asked Tony Abbott, as a matter of public interest, whether his wife was a lesbian, do you think he would just shrug it off as part of the job? Frankly I don’t want to live in a country where the PM should have to shrug that off. Completely apart from the fact that it’s ridiculous and offensive to suggest their partnership is a sham, it’s also completely irrelevant and a waste of airtime.

    2) Radio interviews of politicians are commonly filmed and have been for years. John Howard, in particular, was routinely filmed giving interviews on talkback radio. That’s why the backdrops are usually plastered with logos of the radio station, as they know that anything newsworthy will be broadcast on the news later.

  14. @Nick, LOL. Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if Alan Jones’s employer, 2GB, offered him a job. Sattler is right up their mega right-wing alley, so he will probably wind up here in Sydney.

  15. update 17;00 hrs….this bloke has been sacked from the radio station, thank goodness.

I am not a fan of the PM’s party or their policies, but the behaviour of this fool towards her, leaves me aghast. What a pathetic way to treat the PM. Definitely sexist and stupid.

The Govt is so weak and vunerable on so many fronts and this *(^% er questions about some utterly irrelevant rumoured garbage
