City skyhigh views to get Blocked

Townhouses to be erected beside The Block in South Melbourne may obstruct city views and impact on a sale price.

2013-07-10_0141If you’re bidding for an apartment on The Block later this month, you’ll need to bear in mind that the city views which look so inviting, will later be blocked themselves by new townhouses.

News Corp reports a permit has been granted for three three-storey townhouses to be built on the vacant land behind the Park St property in South Melbourne.

The new complex will not only block views but impact on the northerly sun shining on the outdoor entertaining areas for the lower-level apartments.

It could severely affect the price fetched for the properties at the all-important auction on July 27.

Executive producer Julian Cress admitted the proposed development would obstruct lower-level views, but they were aware of it all along.

The ever-popular public inspections begin this weekend. Queue early for a viewing.

  1. David what was the finish quality like? I went through the original block at Bondi, and was quite taken aback at how good it looked on TV, and how awful the painting, plastering and general fit and finish was throughout the whole block. Whoever bought those units would have had to basically refurb the whole lot.

Obviously there’s more extensive work done on the later seasons and with Keith overseeing and more real tradies on site I would expect it wold be a better finish, but who knows, the camera hides a lot!

  2. For anyone needing the details of the Open Houses, they are as follows:

This weekend (Sat 13th and Sun 14th) 10am – 2pm at 142 Park Street, South Melbourne.

  3. I’ve been lucky enough to have been invited to go through all the apartments a few weeks back. The vacant block next door had signage for new apartments, so not totally unexpected.
But the apartments are amazing in the “flesh”, so with or without the city view, I don’t think it matters.
Just ask the millions of people in the burbs who are quite content in similarly priced properties.
