4kitcTonight on Kitchen Cabinet, Annabel Crabb has dinner with Labor’s Craig Emerson, who until recently was a Cabinet minister in the Gillard government.

At least we won’t have to hear him “singing” anymore…

Annabel heads to Logan, Queensland to dine with Craig Emerson, Labor Minister, former boyfriend of Julia Gillard and the man famous for his protest ditty ‘Whyalla Wipeout’. Whilst whipping up a spicy salmon stir fry, he talks to Annabel about his difficult childhood and how he was the king of the nerds in high school. Annabel discovers how a minister’s big spending proposal could get up if then Prime Minister Bob Hawke had a good day at the racetrack when Craig talks candidly about his time working as an advisor to Bob Hawke, where his unofficial duties included marking up the racing form for the then PM.

Over dinner in a tropical courtyard, Craig talks about Julia Gillard’s famous misogyny speech, and how he doesn’t subscribe to the view that Labor was in complete harmony during the Hawke/Keating era. In the aftermath of ‘Whyalla Wipeout’ his children banned him from any future musical performances, but will he be able to suppress his instincts when Annabel comes to call?

8pm Tuesday July 9 ABC1.
