Auditions: MasterChef Australia

There are less than 2 weeks to go on MasterChef Australia, but the network is already looking for contestants for the next season.

2013-08-19_0236There are less than 2 weeks to go on MasterChef Australia, with the finale locked in for Sunday September 1 on TEN.

But the network is already looking for contestants for the next season.

“Any former contestant will tell you that in the world of MasterChef, anything is possible. So if you’ve always dreamed of following in the footsteps of Julie, Adam, Kate and Andy and making food your life, now is your time. Don’t keep your dream on hold for another year,” says the official website.

“Submit your application now and take the first step of what could be a life-changing culinary journey.”

Amongst the criteria:

You must be aged 18 years or above
You cannot have any formal tertiary or other professional catering qualifications acquired in the last 10 years.
All MasterChef contestants must be amateurs, if you have previous professional or semi-professional kitchen experience that the producers of MasterChef deem could create an unfair advantage (at their entire discretion), you will not be eligible.
The filming is scheduled to take place between approximately November 2013 and July 2014 (as such dates may be varied) for approximately 30 weeks with a couple of production breaks including Christmas and New Year

A key question for TEN next year will be whether to recast any of the judges, and whether the show still stacks up as a 5 night a week programme.

You can apply here.

Applications close Sunday 29 September 2013.

  1. This year there have been good and bad things. The contestants have been pretty good esp towards the end of the season, they all seem very close. When it comes to changing the judges I think ten is wise enough to realise the 3 current judges are a big part of the reason people watch the show, they get along so well with each other and the contestants and know what they are talking about, Only changes I could suggest for next yr would be to do mystery boxes on sunday, bring back amateur vs pro chef for immunity pin, more service challenges in restaurants. Biggest thing ten could do is no spin off mc series next yr at all.

  2. As bizarre as it sounds, they really only need to change a few things next year – Top 50 week needs to come back to cut the wheat from the chaff, they need fewer team and ‘follow the recipe’ challenges to stop people from skating by, and the gimmicks have got to stop. How did we get to the final eight and have people who were told ‘make us a North American dish’ give us a toasted pre-made bagel and an Eton mess? I want to see things that make me think ‘I could do that at home’, not ‘I did do that at home. Last Tuesday. I did it better than that.’

  3. I think the top priority is giving the brand a good rest and dumping all spinoffs. Season 4, Allstars, professionals, and season 5 all within 12 months is way too much. Feels like its on 52 weeks a year and even big fans that want to like it are getting sick of it.

I say don’t start the next season until next September.

  4. Are they serious? The ratings this year at best have been mediocre to poor, next year will be an absolute disaster.
Look at last nights Super Sunday figures. 671.000 and third in total people. Masterchef is dead in the water and 10’s Super Sunday is nothing more than a myth.

  5. The show started badly because most of the contestants seemed to be pretty hopeless, you could almost see the despair in the judges faces. However they’ve all forged ahead in leaps and bounds, and the top 10 put up some marvellous dishes.

They could make an effort to finish on time by cutting all the extraneous chat from contestants telling us they know they have to put up a great dish and will they finish in time etc.etc – when you know that’s all been filmed after the event. All this filler and the show (nearly) always runs overtime. That doesn’t keep me watching through to the next program, I just change channels if I need to catch the start of another program (should it actually start on time!)
