Coronation Street actor suspended after offensive clips

Coronation Street actor Chris Fountain has been suspended by ITV after posting offensive YouTube clips

2013-08-18_0206Coronation Street actor Chris Fountain has been suspended by ITV after posting offensive YouTube clips in which he rapped about raping women and committing violent acts in the guise of his alter-ego ‘The Phantom’.

The rap lyrics included such lines as “I will f*** anybody up in the worst way, rape a bitch on her birthday” and “I’ll stab you in the face with a diseased needle.”

An ITV spokesperson said the content was “totally unacceptable.”

In a statement, 25 year old Fountain who plays Tommy Duckworth on the show, apologised.

“I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour,” said the actor.

“The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I’ve not done anything like it since, nor will I.”

The clips, which are no longer available to view, featured Fountain wearing a Halloween mask, miming stabbing motions and claiming he was “bored with fame”.

An ITV spokeswoman said the suspension would be in effect while the network investigates the issue.

  1. I’ve not watched Coronation St for years, but…
Tommy Duckworth is played by a 25 year old!?!?

Man, I feel old, I’m sure the last time I saw that character on the show he was a toddler. 🙁
