Whovians will gather for Splendid Chaps’ forum in Collingwood next month to discuss the 9th doctor, Christopher Eccleston.
The monthly event is hosted by comedian Ben McKenzie, writer/broadcaster John Richards and actor Petra Elliott.
The Age called it “part intellectual panel discussion and part nerdy Tonight Show”, The Sydney Morning Herald said they “combine analysis, enthusiasm and irreverence”, and Time Out declared it “a smash hit”. The podcasts of the live events have topped the iTunes TV & Film podcast charts, with listeners all around the world, and Time Out Magazine listed them as one of Melbourne’s eight best podcasts.
In September the show hits the first season of the rebooted Who, looking at Christopher Eccleston’s time in the TARDIS and also the way the show was remodeled to have more appeal for a female audience. But has Doctor Who been as terribly sexist as has often been claimed? Are the women in the show as varied and multifaceted as the men? And is the modern series really better in its portrayal of women than the old?
Ben, John and Petra will be joined by a panel including feminist organiser and writer Karen Pickering (Cherchez la Femme), award-wining author and podcaster Tansy Rayner Roberts (Galactic Suburbia, Verity!) and more, plus a musical performance, giveaways and excellence!
5pm Sunday, September 15
