Glee unclear how Finn will depart, Lea Michele back at work.

Finn will be written out of the third episode of Glee's upcoming season, while Lea Michele remains upbeat back at work.

2013-08-02_1108Glee creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are yet to decide if Cory Monteith’s character of Finn will be killed off on the series, but he will be written out.

FOX entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour, “Cory’s character will be written off and [it] will deal directly with drug addiction and the circumstances surrounding Cory’s death.

“The third episode will be Finn Hudson being written out of the show.”

The first two episodes, tributes to the Beatles, will be fun and celebratory, he said.

“It would be difficult to come out of the gate right away and then recover,” he said of not addressing Monteith’s passing in the first two hours. After episode three — which may include outtakes and unused footage — Glee will take a likely three-week break for the World Series, which will allow the writers to “reset” the series.

Additionally, proceeds from the third episode will be donated to a new fund for the late actor.

“I would not anticipate it goes beyond two more seasons,” Reilly also told The Hollywood Reporter following his executive session, further clarifying that you should “never say never.”

Meanwhile Lea Michele is already back at work.

“First day of glee today..And at my first wardrobe fitting for Rachel Berry for Season Five! I’ve missed her so much” she has tweeted.

Earlier she thanked her 3.5m followers: “Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support. Cory will forever be in my heart.”

  1. I think it will probably be a death, with a time jump to avoid funeral/deep grief scenes. I’m not sure drugs should be the cause because it would be very out of character for Finn.

  2. Surely he will be killed off and that decision was made weeks ago. Seems Kevin Reilly dropped a spoiler and now Ryan Murphy is trying to un-spoil it.

I think killing Finn off in a similar way to Cory is the right thing to do. A good opportunity for parents to have the talk with their kids about drugs. Any other death would send a bad message.

    1. Weeks ago? He only died weeks ago, clearly everyone has been coping with reality not a fictional character. Finn will be written out but there is no confirmation the character will be killed off. I don’t see it happening because it means the characters have to have a funeral, and nobody would want to put the cast through that.
