Wake Up news from Federation Square

TEN's breakfast show will broadcast news from a specially converted Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square.

Nuala Hafner,TEN’s Wake Up breakfast show will broadcast news bulletins from a specially converted Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square.

The weekday bulletins will be presented by Nuala Hafner, linked to Natarsha Belling, James Mathison and Natasha Exelby in Manly.

The glass-enclosed facility sits on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets, directly opposite Flinders Street station.

Director of Morning Television, Adam Boland, said: “We are absolutely committed to local news at breakfast. Our Federation Square studio makes that possible. Beyond that, it’s also a super cool way to showcase Melbourne to the nation every morning.”

Victorian Premier, Dr Denis Napthine (pictured, centre), said: “Melbourne is the events capital of Australia. We have a long history of hosting major cultural and sporting events, and this is one of the reasons why Melbourne has been named the world’s most liveable city for the third time running. TEN’s new show and studio at Federation Square, which is in the heart of this great city, will showcase Melbourne and Victoria to the rest of the country.”

The Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle (pictured, right), said: “TEN’s use of the Melbourne Visitor Centre every weekday morning for their Breakfast program is a great opportunity to showcase Melbourne to a national audience. The City of Melbourne welcomes Wake Up to Melbourne.”

Executive General Manager of Network TEN Melbourne, Russel Howcroft, added: “Network TEN is absolutely thrilled that our new breakfast show Wake Up will have the opportunity to hold a strong presence in such an iconic location such as Federation Square.”

TEN confirms Wake Up will arrive later this year, with November tipped to be the launch.

  1. Does it really matter what the back drop is? It’s about the local news content, not the back drop.

Have to agree with @ohdenny. Exelby was atrocious on This Week Live. She’s a very risky inclusion as a host. She could turn people off very very quickly.

How can you have local news while focusing on a Melbourne backdrop? I think I must be missing something because I read local as Brisbane news for Brisbane Adelaide for Adelaide etc…
If I am sitting in Brissy I don’t want to see a Syd beach or Melbourne backdrop every day…
They seem to be spending a lot of money on this show…Good luck

“Local” as in ‘Melbourne’? Impossible without a fishbowl?
This sounds like an almighty expensive project, taking in Manly, the cable, etc.

  4. Sounds good. Although the November launch date still seems ages away.

When Ten axed Breakfast they said they’d definitely have a product going for the 2nd Half of 2013. Wake Up better be worth the wait…
