2013-09-03_1318The first episode of Homeland‘s upcoming third season has been leaked online.

The episode is a non-final “workprint” cut, missing some credits and minor details and includes one scene where the voice of an actor is dubbed. There is some speculation the leak stems all the way to a post-production studio.

But it has already been downloaded in excess of 100,000 times.

It’s not the first time a series has had an episode has leaked online ahead of its broadcast. Season premieres for Lost, Dexter, Fringe and Desperate Housewives were all leaked. But some argue it has served as a tactical marketing ploy.

In Australia episodes of The Block and Neighbours have also been accidentally available before broadcast.

The leak comes ahead of the third season premiere in the US later this month.

TEN is yet to confirm an Airdate for the new season.

  1. Last season’s fast tracking of Homeland was a failure. It averaged 614k for the second season compared to nearly 1m for the first season.

The second season was not as good and was up against tougher competition. Fast tracking subsequent season makes more sense that for a premiere season, fans will be keen to watch a show once they have gotten into it as soon as possible. But it certainly didn’t help the overnight ratings to any noticeable extent.

But Ten is likely save Elementary for Sunday’s in next year’s ratings season and fast track Homeland again.

  2. Personally I think its mostly marketing, to get people talking and is probably cheaper than booking the stars on late night talk shows.

Hope TEN fast tracks it again, maybe Sunday nights to take over from Ripper Street when it ends?

  3. Ten probably have this earmarked for Sundays in October. However, I think Ten could really benefit from a same day broadcast on Monday nights from September 30, and air Elementary Season 2 in its place on Sundays. Mondays have been struggletown for Ten for a long time and Homeland would bring in the numbers and potentially some more with the same day broadcast. I’m a Homeland addict and that strategy would have me watching Ten.
