Peter Meakin to start at TEN in February

TEN and Seven avoid another legal stoush with Peter Meakin to begin at TEN after a 6 month wait.

Peter-MeakinFormer Seven News boss Peter Meakin will take up his role as Executive Director of News and Current Affairs at TEN February, avoid a lengthy legal case between the two networks.

After Meakin was announced as joining TEN last month, there was speculation that a non-compete clause in his Seven contract would prevent him joining for 12 months.

TV Tonight understands discussions between Seven and TEN, including at CEO level, have agreed to a six month wait period. That avoids another legal case similar to the one over James Warburton, in which executives had to reveal all kinds of details to the court.

Meakin will report to CEO Hamish McLennan, and will be responsible for the network’s News and Current Affairs programming, including TEN Eyewitness News, Revealed With Hugh Riminton, Wake Up and Studio 10.

TEN Chief Executive Officer, Hamish McLennan, said: “We are very pleased Peter will be joining us in February to lead our News and Current Affairs team.

“Peter is a legend of the television industry and his appointment underlines our commitment to hiring the best people. Everyone at Ten is looking forward to his arrival.”

TEN Head of News and Current Affairs, Anthony Flannery, will report to Meakin.
