Renewed: Suits

Offbeat US legal drama Suits has been renewed for a fourth season of 16 episodes.

2013-10-25_1716Offbeat US legal drama Suits has been renewed for a fourth season by the USA Network.

The fourth season starring Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams will consist of 16 episodes.

“As a leading cable drama, Suits is at the top of its game and continues to grow in the key demographics, drawing a passionate, young and loyal audience,” network President Chris McCumber said in a statement. “(Showrunner) Aaron Korsh consistently pushes the boundaries of storytelling and the series promises to deliver a provocative fourth season.”

Korsh has also signed a deal with Universal Cable Productions to continue with the show as well as develop new scripted series.

Season Two of Suits resumed in Australia on Seven last week, while Season Three is split into two in the US with the second block to air in the first quarter of 2014.

    Yes, it now seems that 88 episodes is enough for syndication.
    However, it’s more interesting to look at 2nd season shows. The thought nowadays is that if they renew to a third season, they are effectively safe for a fourth, which will secure syndication.
    This is why programmes such as Revenge are ensured to get a fourth season, even though it’s ratings aren’t great.

    And syndication is not longer saving four season shows any more. So few are making it to 100 eps that local networks and basic cable are taking 4 seasons, or even anything over 80 episodes it the show has good syndication potential .

  3. With all the recent news on US television pickups and cancellations, I wonder whether you, David, might do a story about how US telly works.
    It’s quite different to our system, and I have found it fascinating to research how it all works.

    Both Good Wife and Mentalist are ready for the cancellation phone call, but it’s all good because they are over the syndication line.
