Vocal trio Third D3gree were eliminated from The X Factor in a dramatic showdown with singer Taylor Henderson, last night.

2013-10-21_2329Vocal trio Third D3gree were eliminated from The X Factor in a dramatic showdown with singer Taylor Henderson, last night.

The hip hop act were again in the bottom 2 after singers Dami Im and Jai Waetford were voted through to the Grand Final.

After the judges were divided over which act should join them, a tiebreaker public vote guaranteed Henderson the final place.

Third D3gree’s mentor Natalie Bassingthwaite said, “I’m devastated that the guys are gone but I’m so excited for everyone to hear what they’ll do next.”

Jacinta from Third D3gree said, “We want to thank the judges and all the fans for supporting us. We’ve had the most amazing time and we’re so excited for everyone to see what we’re gonna do next.”

Dami Im remains the hot favourite to take out the contest, which has its Grand Final on Sunday and a Live Decider on Monday.

One Direction, Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy and Guy Sebastian will all appear as guest performers.

  1. Taylor is currently #1 at iTunes with the song he didn’t want to sing, so good on Ronan for putting his foot down (I’m sure Taylor’s happy about it, too). It’s interesting, though, that people chose to spend their money buying his music rather than voting for him. I think the judges deciding to go to deadlock reflected their integrity – they could very easily have put Third Degree through, so that they could highlight that their creation had made it all the way through to the finals, but they chose to leave it up to the public. Jai definitely benefited from the sympathy vote last night, as he clearly was the weakest performer overall on Sunday. Still very talented, though! David – my PVR missed the final 10 mins of the show. Is it being repeated at all this week?

  2. Hate to be in the audience next week. It will be full of screaming girls pushing each other to get to the front when One Direction perform.

Wonder how long before the first girl starts crying

  3. The best 3 got through, IMO. The judges had a vested interest in 3rd Degree going through as they were put together from solo contestants by the judges. But they were too inconsistent & it was painfully obvious they didn’t get on. Jai’s time will come too..but not yet. He is too young, but Ronan, having started at 16 himself was the best mentor for him. But Taylor by far the best. Yes, he was a bit cautious in singing some songs but given his way, he’ll never sing those again. When he picked his own or sang a song more in the style he wants to pursue, he smashed it, and his voice was always there anyway. Having said that, I don’t want Taylor to win. Like his journey on this show, he won’t take kindly to being told what to sing with the teenybopper fluff the record company will foist on him & being a singer/songwriter himself, why should he? So best he finishes runner up & use his…

  4. That is a pretty impressive line up of guests on the show.

Im disappointed 3rd degree didnt make it. jai is good but his voice hasnt even broken and if he wins im not sure at 14 he could represent Australia on the world stage.

In all fairness Dami should win because she has been consistently awesome. But if Taylor won I wouldnt mind.

  5. Taylor has a decent voice but I think mentally he probably doesn’t have what it takes in the industry. Third Degree are entertaining and different to other local acts. So for me it’s disappointing they didn’t make the final.

Jai surely cannot succeed at such a young age. He is talented and in time he could have success but not this decade.

Dami seems the likely winner. Will she have a long successful career? Probably not if history is anything to go by.

  6. Third D3gree are the best act to ever come out of X Factor Australia. What dross they were eliminated.

I really hope RedFoo is replaced next year. I like him as a personality, but as a mentor and a judge he is quite terrible.

  7. Thought that Third degree would go last night and agree with maxxdude they were a hit and miss at times, Think Dami or Taylor will take out top honours but have to commend Jai for his contribution, at 14 he has a long way to go but thought he was very mature for his age and can only see him improving and wish him success for the future.

  8. i felt like 3D needed to make it to the GF more that taylor. Taylor has shown us what he can do, he has talent but its all a bit same-y, getting a bit boring. i dont think making it to the final would have much of an impact on his career. 3D on the other hand could have made the difference between, perhaps, a 2 album career and instant breakup.

  9. 3D should be in the grand final. Jai should’ve went last night and I couldn’t believe he wasn’t at least in the bottom two. Hopefully like last year Sony release what would’ve been 3D’s winner single.

  10. I disagree. I think there was pressure on the judges to keep them around because they were put together by the judges. They were so hit & miss & for me their hairstyles & styling completely overshadowed their music ability.
Dami or Taylor for me to win.

  11. Taylor is a great talent, but 3D shouldn’t have left – I can’t believe Jai is still there – constant off-key singing, forgotten words, cheesy performances… little girls and grandmas have a lot to answer for!

  12. I agree with adzg. Third Degree are the only act of the 4 that i would buy their music and i am a middle aged pop fan. Their act was different to the rest and very current. Nat is right, they are coming our way. If non winners such as Jennifer Hudson, Jessica Mauboy, Ricki Lee can have long careers, so too will Third Degree. Dami still the one to beat though.

  13. A very big shame to see Third D3gree go, they bought something different to the stage. The grand final seems somewhat one dimensional all the finalists are famous for belting out ballads while Third D3gree gave us up tempo full of energy performances.

  14. Although I expected Third Degree to leave last night based on their previous time spent in the bottom two, I think they’re fantastic and, unlike Taylor, think Third Degree have star quality. Hopefully they have a successful career post-show.
