Doctor Who: iview plays, deleted scene, Guinness World record.

Doctor Who now holds the record for the largest ever simulcast of a TV drama, simulcast in 94 countries. And a deleted scene has emerged.

2013-11-25_1013Doctor Who‘s  ‘The Day of The Doctor’ pulled 51,000 plays on iview in a single day.

That’s on top of the 922,000 prime time and 424,000 morning broadcasts.

“It’s clear that The Doctor is adored by millions of people around the globe and we’re thrilled that ABC TV was able be part of this phenomenal global broadcast, bringing the Time Lord’s 50th anniversary adventure to fans in Australia,” said Brendan Dahill, Controller ABC1.

The episode has also earned a Guinness World Record.

The special 75-minute-long episode starring Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt now holds the record for the largest ever simulcast of a TV drama.

Along with a BBC One peak audience of 10.6 million and average 10.2 million (37.4 per cent share) on Saturday night, The Day Of The Doctor was simulcast in 94 countries including the UK, US, Canada, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Panama, Peru and Australia.

Eight hundred and thirty-four cinemas around the world also screened the episode live with 1,559 in total showing the anniversary episode.

Writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, says: “10.2 million. I’m astonished and moved – and that’s only the score so far, that’s just the overnights. I speak from personal experience when I say that there’s nothing better the morning after your 50th birthday than knowing you’ve still got it. Happy birthday Doctor – go get ’em you old devil!”

  1. Was great to go and see this in a cinema. The atmosphere was great! Good being around fans and feeling part of an actual event. Something most movies fail to do.
