Go Girls to end?

The future of New Zealand dramedy Go Girls appears to be in doubt after it wasn't announced in the TVNZ 2014 Programming Slate.

2013-11-15_0005The future of New Zealand dramedy Go Girls appears to be in doubt after it wasn’t announced in the TVNZ 2014 Programming Slate (do they call them Upfronts too?) this week.

There have been 5 seasons produced thus far, but most of the principal cast including Anna Hutchison, Alix Bushnell, Bronwyn Turei and Jay Ryan moved on after 4 seasons with new cast members introduced for Season 5.

Writing about the upcoming TVNZ slate, Chris Pilpott from stuff.co.nz admits, “I feel like the new cast would definitely have found their feet, given time.”

Meanwhile one Go Girls scriptwriter Kate McDermott has a new comedy drama series about a 24-year-old slacker whose life is turned upside down when he falls in love with a mother-of-three who is 15 years his senior, Step Dave.

  1. It’s definitely not the same without the original cast, they really should have ended it at the end of series 4. I loved series 1-4, but 5 just doesn’t have the same spark. I think the time has come for the show to end.

  2. This doesn’t surprise me, as I haven’t warmed at all to the new Go Girls cast at all. Nice to have Gran and Fran McMann still in it, plus Michelle Langstone from The Almighty Johnsons is a bonus.

Though my view of it may be tainted a little, as I have been re-watching the old cast of Girl Girls on NITV Tuesday nights. So watching the cast I really enjoyed from Series One again at the same time I’m watching the new cast may not help my view of it at all.

  3. The two leads didn’t want to do S5 and got roles elsewhere. So they finished up the stories for those characters and introduced a new cast at the end of S4.

Jay Ryan got a lead role in Beauty and The Beast and a role in Top Of The Lake.

Anna Hutchinson had already been unavailable for season and a half filming shows in Australia and got a role in Spartacus and is trying to get work in the US.

  4. The cast of season 4 were actually dumped in favour of of a new younger cast which didn’t pay off not that the show and the new cast were bad it’s just that they weren’t the cast viewers were used too, in all honesty it should have been a spin off show with a different name then it may have worked well!
