UK acquires upcoming TEN drama Secrets and Lies

Hot on the heels of a US adaptation, there's more good news from TEN's drama dept.

Secrets & LiesMore good news for TEN’s 2014 drama Secrets and Lies, which has now been acquired by the UK’s Channel 5 and TV2 in Norway.

This follows a US adaptation by ABC (USA) several weeks ago.

The thriller from Brisbane-based production company Hoodlum follows an everyday family man (Martin Henderson) who finds the body of a four year old boy and quickly becomes the prime murder suspect. As his world splits apart, he struggles to clear his name.

The cast also includes Dianna Glenn, Anthony Hayes and Adrienne Pickering.

Ricke Maier, TEN’s Head of Drama, said, “This is a sensational early response and full credit to the cast and crew. The team at Hoodlum deserve all the success coming their way. We can’t wait for Australian audiences to see this powerful new series.”

Tracey Robertson, CEO of Hoodlum said: “From the moment we started collaborating about Secrets & Lies, we knew that we had an incredible piece of television in our hands. This acquisition, before the show has even launched in Australia, alongside the recent commissioning of a US version, is testament to the quality of this production.”

A further 7 territories are in negotiation for broadcast rights.

Really sounding like TEN is on a winner with this one.

  1. Agree about the abysmal quality of Ten promos. They are uniformly horrible, always have been and do not create sufficient buzz. They need to sit at the feet and take notes from the masters of hype creating TV promos, Channel Seven.

  2. finally – more scripted drama from Ten … a much better proposition than the glut of really bad quality reality television they have had in the past ,,, and in the future ….. keep up with this direction Ten, because it is what the people want …….

  3. So the dreadful promo for what looks like 3rd rate fat cop procedural running at the moment is just another case of Ten’s marketing dept. constructing something that has nothing-what-so-ever with the actual show.

  4. Fabulous!! Congratulations to the production company, to have a major US network like ABC acquire the rights is an incredible achievement and to then sell rights to the UK – well, it must be a quality production. .
