Axed: Before the Game

Exclusive: After 11 collective seasons Roving-produced AFL show has been axed by TEN.

BeforeTheGameEXCLUSIVE: Long running AFL football show Before the Game has been axed by TEN.

A TEN spokesperson confirmed to TV Tonight, “Before The Game will not be returning in 2014.

“Thank you to Roving Enterprises and the cast of After The Game and then Before The Game, who did a great job over the past 11 years.”

Dave Hughes recently announced his departure as a permanent host of The Project, but the latest move now sheds more light on his commitments with TEN.

Before the Game also Andrew Maher, Mick Molloy, Ryan Fitzgerald, Anthony Lehmann and Neroli Meadows.

But the show is yet hoping for another lease of life. Kevin Whyte from Roving Enterprises told TV Tonight, “Before The Game is an iconic Melbourne show with an amazing cast and crew and we thank Ten for 11 amazing years.

“We are exploring other options for the show in 2014.”

The panel show began on TEN in a late night slot in 2003 as After the Game before moving to an earlier timeslot as Before the Game.

  1. Wow.. Interesting. Don’t recall any hints of them saying goodbye when they were last on, unlike the time they didn’t know whether they were coming or going when 10 lost the afl rights.

  2. I always enjoyed watching this before flicking to FOX for the main Saturday night game. It was light hearted and fun but never vicious or nasty. The cast had great chemistry. Somebody needs to drop a bomb on channel 10. There is something very strange going on over there. Where are there decent shows? The only thing I watch on Ten was Elementry, the dumped the Hopman Cup tennis and now Seven has picked that up every session live on 7MATE. If they lost Judge Judy they may as well shut the place down.

  3. Another absolutely idiotic decision by TEN. Instead of nurturing and promoting, once again they choose cancelling. Just watch this great show get picked up by another network & watch it thrive with proper support. Whoever suggested that TEN is being run-down by its management for economic or political purposes is proving to be on the ball.
