E! has issued an apology following viewer criticism of a ‘fun fact’ during its Red Carpet coverage of the Golden Globes.
One of the trivia cards explained, “Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991.”
Following negative comment on Twitter E! issued a statement: “We regret the insensitive classification of Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s diagnosis during our Eonline [sic] live stream. We understand the serious nature of the disease and sincerely apologize.”

Thanks everyone for clarifying what about this was offending. I guess saying it’s a ‘fun fact’ isn’t the best way to announce it, but it’s definitely not the worst thing I’ve heard an announcer say.
@Josh777 Before E mentioned when Michael J Fox was diagnosed it had “Fun Fact” before it. Now I pretty sure that he and anyone else with Parkinson’s wouldn’t think it was fun disease.
I think people were taking issue with it being reported as a “Fun Fact”, not that it was reported.
Josh777, I don’t think it’s the fact itself, it’s the word “fun”. If they’d said “interesting fact”, there wouldn’t have been a reaction.
I don’t get it? What’s wrong with stating a fact about a man who was written out of Spin City because of his disease only to return years later without missing a beat? I don’t know if it’s because I have a disability or what but I don’t see anything wrong with that at all.
