Great to hear that Modern Family will film a vacation episode in Australia.
The entire cast will wing their way down under next month for two weeks of filming.
“We are so excited about our trip down under and we promise not to do any ‘down under’ jokes. We look forward to a fantastic shoot in many exotic locations. We loved the family vacation episodes we shot in Hawaii and Wyoming – this one is certainly our most ambitious yet,” said co-creator Steve Levitan.
“We promise to feature a kangaroo, a koala and a boomerang. I’m sure there will be lots more, but so far that’s all we know about Australia – our American school system is a disaster. So we thank Qantas for this amazing opportunity to broaden our horizons. Plus it’ll be nice to go to a place where everyone looks like Hugh Jackman and Miranda Kerr. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!”
The news follows recent speculation the episode was on the cards.
During his recent visit Jesse Tyler Ferguson told TEN’s Angela Bishop: “I think that’s something they would really love to do. Certainly the cast would love to come here. A lot of cast members have not yet been to Australia and they’re incredibly jealous that I’m here right now. I think it would be an amazing place to shoot.”
But cancel any notion it will be the wedding episode for Cameron and Mitchell -honeymoon perhaps?
On Wake Up, Ferguson recently said, “The wedding episode will not be here, I guarantee you that. We could do it in New Zealand though. Sounds like I just laid down the challenge. Come on Australia, pull it together.”
Meanwhile ACT deputy chief minister Andrew Barr has already extended an open invitation to “Mitchell and Cameron” to attend the 20th anniversary screening of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert at the National Film and Sound Archive next month.

It would be great if they would showcase other Aussie animals besides kangaroos & koalas. Wombats & echidnas are unique to Australia and just as cute, yet are usually ignored.
I can’t see this working. I remember the Aussie versions of Love Thy Neighbour and Are You Being Served in the 1970s were terrible.
If they go anywhere it should be the Kimberly! Now that’s an oasis in a desert. We’ve all seen the barrier reef and the Oprah house and bridge it’s time to see what else Aus has to offer.
BBC? If Modern Family can do it, you can do it for Doctor Who!
its perfectly reasonable to think they will feature some aussie iconic images like a kangaroo koala and boomerang… because outside of this country thats what some people think… so to maxxdude and deedeedragons…take a chill pill and a bex… and have a good lay down…. good on them, (the producers of Modern Family)…i even hope they “throw the shrimp on the barby” line in there somewhere as well… be happy that they are shooting in Aus… and not somewhere else….
I read a while back that they were hoping to film here, glad to see it’s actually happening.
Can’t stand this show anymore.
February? It takes a bit longer than that to get an episode all the way to airing. We’d be looking at possibly April for the US airing. Ten’s airdate would depend on a few different things.
Will this Special Modern Family in Australia be shown on TEN in February?
That is good news.
I rather think he was commenting on how cliche all the others had been so far.
I wonder if Cam might just happen to do a bit of shopping in Big W

Sounds like every other US show that has filmed a ‘Down Under’ episode.
I expect much more from Modern Family.
