Returning: So You Think You Can Dance Australia

TEN's Dance reality series makes its return on the first day of the ratings year.

2014-01-27_0119So You Think You Can Dance Australia makes its return to TEN on the first day of the ratings year, Sunday, February 9, at 6.30pm.

It then continues Monday, February 10, at 7.30pm on TEN.

TEN has scheduled the return during its coverage of the Winter Olympics, moving The Biggest Loser to Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the same week. Primetime Olympics coverage screens from 8:10pm on TEN on February 9.

Hosted by Carrie Bickmore, the show returns to TEN after a four year absence, with new judges Paula Abdul, Jason Gilkison, Aaron Cash and Shannon Holtzapffel. The show is produced by Shine Australia.

Producers have travelled across the country in search of the best 100 dancers Australia has to offer. In a challenging and competitive week of workshops and dance-offs that are full of tears of joy and tears of sorrow, tantrums and unexpected surprises, these top 100 dancers have the opportunity to fulfil their dreams.

From there, the last remaining contestants will “dance for their lives” as our panel of judges select the Top 20 dancers (10 boys and 10 girls) who will go on to compete in the “performance” shows – when Australians will cast their vote.

During the spectacular weekly performance shows, the contestants will be paired up to perform routines from a selection of genres – from jazz and urban to contemporary and ballroom – all showcasing the great variety of dance in Australia.

So brush off those dancing shoes and get ready for a rollercoaster ride of dance when So You Think You Can Dance Australia returns.

  1. now that The Biggest Loser has played, and there is an indicator how Ten’s year could be looking, Im not convinced that their revival is going to happen this year.

If you look at it, beyond the froth and spin, all they are doing is more reality programs. If their reality programs are already failing, then this is likely to follow ….

Best to go straight into Drama and Not more reality.,..

  2. How Ten expects this to work after viewers have had two weeks to get into either MKR or The Block (or both) is beyond me.

They aren’t going to get anywhere if they just copy Seven/Nine and schedule similar shows in similar slots – we saw with The Bachelor last year that they found some success targeting overlooked nights later in the week, which is still where I think they should start rebuilding from.

  3. Can’t wait for the return of SYTYCD looking forward to the new team. The worry i have is it will be up against the heavyweights of MKR and The Block. I watch MKR live so Dance’s ratings might suffer a bit. I just hope the scheduling of both Dance and TBL (i don’t watch the latter) doesn’t hinder it. I don’t know if its the answer to TEN’s problems but we will see.

  4. I hope Ten are going to produce another promo for sytycd because the current one is not good, older season ones where all the dancers did a dance together was the best I think.

  5. @alvar

When 3 commercial networks play nothing but reality television at the same time, It’s the audience who loses ….. and the the network that has no audience to begin with …..

  6. @Randwick

Agreed. It’s a big challenge going up against The Block and presumably MKR. I think they’ve chosen the right timeslot where it could attract a family friendly audience.

  7. Can’t wait! I hope they keep the Bl on Sundays after the first week though because Sun weigh in has become inprinted in viewers minds. They don’t want to make the same mistake of moving it from sun/mon like they did sytycd and kill it.
