Airdate: Cuckoo

US comedian Andy Samberg and Britain's Greg Davies both feature in this UK comedy.

2014-02-12_0141Next week the Comedy Channel screens 2012 BBC comedy Cuckoo with US comedian Andy Samberg and Britain’s Greg Davies.

The comedy centres around a young woman marrying an American who is hooked on a New Age lifestyle, and her family’s outrage. It has been renewed for a second season, although Samberg will be replace by Taylor Launtner.

Set in the UK’s Midlands suburbs, Cuckoo centres on the Thomas family. When Ken and Lorna collect their daughter Rachel from the airport, they’re horrified to learn that she’s returned from her gap year with more than just a henna tattoo and braids in her hair.

At the arrival gate, she introduces them to her new husband, Cuckoo, a squared-jawed, self-appointed American spiritual ninja who is now their new son-in-law. Cuckoo is every parent’s worst nightmare – a slacker full of outlandish “new age” ideas.

Ken and Lorna have no choice but to welcome their daughter’s new husband into their family home, and if every Englishman’s home is his castle, then this hippie has stormed Ken’s fortress and plundered everything, including his princess.

Starring Andy Samberg (Saturday Night Live, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Cuckoo, Greg Davies (The Inbetweeners, We Are Klang) as Ken, Helen Baxendale (Cold Feet, Friends) as Lorna, and Tamla Kari (The Inbetweeners Movie) as Rachel.

Cuckoo was a smash hit on BB3 and is now confirmed to be made into a US version. The six part series was written by Robin French and Kieron Quirke.

Wednesdays from February 19 at 9.30pm only on The Comedy Channel.
