Dateline travels to Cairo with the brother of Australian journalist Peter Greste to meet him in an Egyptian jail.

2014-02-22_2349This week Dateline travels to Cairo with the brother of Australian journalist Peter Greste to meet him in an Egyptian jail.

Australian Journalist, Peter Greste was arrested by Egyptian police on December 29, 2013. He is being accused of falsely portraying Egypt as being in a state of civil war and conspiring with a terrorist organisation – the Muslim Brotherhood.

Sydney-born Greste was working for Al-Jazeera in Cairo at the time of his arrest and is due to face court on Thursday. If convicted, Greste could be imprisoned for up to seven years.

Dateline has been granted exclusive access to Peter’s brother, Andrew, as he travels from Brisbane to Cairo, to bring supplies to Peter in prison and to meet with Egyptian officials in a last bid to set him free.

Video journalist, Brett Mason is present when Andrew is granted his first visit to see Peter in jail. Dateline also has access to meetings with Greste’s lawyers, Australian Embassy officials in Cairo and meetings between Andrew and family members of other imprisoned journalists.

Also on this week, Nick Lazaredes is on the streets of Bangkok, where anti-government protests are gathering pace. Lazaredes will report live on the latest in Thailand on Tuesday night.
