The CW network has renewed a number of shows: Arrow, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and newcomers The Originals and Reign.
It’s good news for the shows which screen in Australia on Nine, TEN and Foxtel.
Arrow will be back for its third season, Vampire Diaries its sixth and Supernatural will hit an impressive 10th season.
“This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said.
“The Vampire Diaries is No. 2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes the fate of newcomers The Tomorrow People, The 100 and Star-Crossed, as well as Beauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie and The Carrie Diaries, will be determined closer to the network’s upfronts in May.
Meanwhile revived series Drop Dead Diva has again been axed, this time by Lifetime. It was previously cancelled after efforts to cut costs in its fifth season stalled, then revived by Lifetime for a 13-episode sixth season which will now be its last.

@Nate
Yes Hart Of Dixie will be renewed for syndication but whether its a full season, a half season or for summer (it is doing that badly) is still to be determined.
For the Hart of Dixie fans, it is looking pretty safe for renewal based on the way syndication works in the US.
Not really surprised for VD and Supernatural. They seem to be doing well.
Fingers crossed for Hart of Dixie.
(Wilson Bethel- Wade- is coming to Australia!!)
Thank you David very much for this news. I’m glad about a few of these shows. Curious about others.
‘Supernatural’-the brothers are still kicking it after 10 years…Yipee!
Recently caught up on Supernatural so I’m glade it’s back, really hope Hart of Dixie come back as well, its a fun show that isn’t the usual cop or medical drama.

Not a chance. The US ratings have been awful, and the show was not given a back order beyond its 13 episode second season, which typically indicates that it is ‘defacto cancelled.’
I just wish ‘they’ would show the rest of Drop Dead Diva…so it can be released on DVD….
Is there any reason in is not airing in Australia yet? They are probably waiting until State of Origin so they can pull it off air and break the flow of the season….
Good to see my favourite shows being renewed, although my sister will be sad about Drop Dead Diva. Hopefully Hart of Dixie gets a renewal
I’m enjoying the second season of Arrow too, shame it’s not on TV here, I’d much prefer to record it and watch it.
Glad Arrow is coming back, as has been said Season 2 is fantastic, having the island storyline going on with the present day. Plus another 4 or so other storylines going on in and around the present day ones works a treat (bound to one to take over from the island eventually).
Not at all surprised about Drop Dead Diva. They squandered their reprieve with a horrible mess of a season. They really should have set an end game on the series arc and worked every episode more clearly towards that. But instead it meandered, weakened some of the main characters, contradicted itself, and flailed around helplessly.
Fingers crossed for The Carrie Diaries.
Excellent news. Loving season 2 of arrow.
