Seven cooks up a second ratings week

Ratings: ONE tops multichannels but viewers vote for cooking over ice sports as Seven takes a second week.

2014-02-23_2334We may have been in the midst of an Olympics broadcast, but as far as viewers were concerned, there was only one gold medal performance: My Kitchen Rules.

The show nabbed all top 4 places last week -as high as 1.93m viewers- helping Seven to another ratings week. INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, Sunday Night and Seven News all scored well for the network.

Nine was still some way behind with its top performers including The Block (1.36m), Love Child, Nine News and The Big Bang Theory.

TEN was again third network overall, but while ONE topped the multichannels for the second week in a row, TEN’s primary channel landed behind ABC1. Nevertheless the network awarded itself a Gold medal for success with CEO Hamish McLennan declaring, “ratings and online audiences far exceeding our expectations.” In sheer weekly rankings, TEN’s best performer was a women’s snowboarding final at 825,000 viewers in 4 cities, followed by a men’s snowboarding final and TEN Eyewitness News.

Doc Martin (1.15m viewers) was best for ABC1 then The Doctor Blake Mysteries and ABC News. SBS is still struggling amid heated competition, with no shows in the Top 100.

  1. I opined on another thread that Sochi would have rated really well on Seven, as they know how to promote and create massive buzz for event TV. Ten cannot do this, as they do not have a large enough viewership and their promos are amateur and irritating in comparison to Sevens. So are Nine’s promos, for that matter. Tonight’s instant restaurant with the Captain will rate humungously well. I predict possibly upwards of 2M. Will be very surprised at anything less than 1.7M, as the build up for his restaurant has been a masterclass in creating audience anticipation.

  2. TEN does deserve a gold medal but for spin!

TENs primary channel delivered single figures on 6 of the 7 nights last week, an average, as you state, of only 9.4% share. If that is exceeding their expectations then they have an even bigger problem than just ratings. Also the success of the Big Bash is a total myth! I read on-line that it cost TEN $20 million dollars for the Big Bash rights to only grow their revenue in January by $1 million. The deal of the century indeed! They are in desperate need of new management. Another weekly win to Seven, in contrast, Seven are going really well!
