WIN TV and ABC become housemates in Hobart

WIN Television is set to rent space in ABC's Tasmanian headquarters.

2014-03-27_1605Regional broadcaster WIN Television is set to move in with the ABC in Hobart.

The Mercury reports ABC’s acting state director Andrew Fisher said WIN would utilise a section of the ABC’s site that was no longer needed. The public broadcaster would provide space, power and lighting as part of a simple landlord-tenant arrangement, but that operations would be kept entirely separate.

The purpose-built broadcast building has been up for lease for about 12 months.

But there will be no further co-operation or sharing of facilities between ABC and WIN.

ABC had similar arrangements with TEN in Brisbane and other media organisations at Parliament House in Canberra.

  1. Veritas, yes, ABC & WIN still co-own MediaHub. Since then they’ve also started playing-out SBS’s NITV, World Movies & Studio channels, plus racing channel, TVN.

  2. If I’m not mistaken, this is not the first collaboration between WIN and Aunty. When the MediaHub playout facility started WIN and the ABC both used it in a joint venture. Is this arrangement still in place?

  3. All part of rationalisation of space.
And I guess WIN need to be in Hobart instead of New Town where TVT6 first commenced many years ago, and with most switching done elsewhere no real need for extra space.

  4. In Brisbane, ABC moved into Ten’s premises when their Toowong office become part of a cancer scare. When ABC opened their office in South Bank, they moved out of Ten.
