TEN subpoenas phone records of Seven execs

A court has ordered phone records of Seven execs be released to TEN for the court case over John Stephens.

seven 006The court case between TEN and Seven over the employment of programming exec John Stephens will begin on May 14th.

Yesterday the NSW Supreme Court heard that TEN is seeking to subpoena phone call and text message records that took place between Channel 7 executives including chairman Kerry Stokes, David Leckie and Bruce McWilliam.

TEN alleges Seven coerced Stephens to renege on a contract he had signed to switch networks to TEN. He has since signed a new contract with Seven, working for the network overseas after telling TEN he wasn’t thinking clearly due to medication he was taking.

Fairfax reports Justice James Stevenson ordered that the phone records be released, but that Seven be given the opportunity to view them first and then to oppose their release if there were legitimate reasons to do so.

“I really would hope that parties at this level of sophistication could work out these kinds of differences, but perhaps they can’t,” he said.
