Gabriel Gaté will chalk up his tenth year of Taste Le Tour on SBS next month, serving as an entrée to the 2014 Tour de France.
Join Gabriel on a gastronomic journey as he follows the route of the twenty-one stages of the 2014 Tour de France cycling race, stopping along the way to discover and cook the local specialties of each unique region.
Like a lovingly crafted recipe, Taste Le Tour has the perfect combination of the best in classic French cuisine mixed with the most stunning scenery of the French countryside and personal stories from the local artisans and chefs which give each village its own flavour.
“We try to record magic gastronomic moments visiting the most beautiful markets, tasting the great specialities of each region and meeting some of the most skilful artisans – bakers, chefs, cheese makers and winemakers,” says Gabriel. “During the trip we gain a few kilos but it’s worth it.”
The 2014 edition of the Tour de France begins in the United Kingdom and the picturesque Yorkshire region. Having worked in England as a young chef, Gabriel is familiar with the best of British food, including its great cheeses, superb beef and of course the famous Yorkshire pudding.
After leaving England, Gabriel continues his gourmet journey through the north of France, the Champagne region, Lorraine, Alsace, Franche Comté, Beaujolais, the French Alps, the north of Provence, Languedoc-Roussillon, the Pyrenees and the Dordogne, finishing in the heart of France, Paris.
Nightly during the Tour de France, 10pm on SBS ONE (Stages 1, 2 and 14 at 8.30pm, Stage 21 at 11pm) from Saturday 5 July – Sunday 27 July.
