Auditions: The Biggest Loser

Biggest Loser is calling for Families for its next season on TEN.

2014-07-26_0210The Biggest Loser is back and we’re casting for our next series” declares a casting notice for TEN Reality series.

The announcement follows TEN hinting that it was not quite done with the series (despite some comments from CEO Hamish McLennan).

“This upcoming season will focus on the family obesity epidemic that’s crippling Australia,” it states.

The Biggest Loser welcomes applications from Australian ‘Families’ of all shapes, sizes and make up. We consider a ‘family’ to consist of four people who have the same shared goals, values and have long-term commitments to one another, whether they are Mum, Dad, & Son, best friends or cousins.”

But if the series is to return it will need its own makeover, including for its trainers, host and authenticity, following a disappointing season this year.

The Ararat season was originally produced as a short-run season designed to air at the end of 2013 but was repackaged as the full series for 2014.

The new show returns to the family-based season, last seen in 2011 and one of the brand’s more successful, finishing with 1.68m viewers.

  1. I am thrilled TBL is coming back. I love that show.

Good idea to go back to families. It will rate well.

It should be on after Masterchef 2015 in the second half of the year.

I think 10 need to come up with a new reality show or dare i say it…a Aussie Sitcom…to fill the 7.30pm slot while MKR and The Block are on.

  2. I support Ten and I enjoy TBL but if they launch 2015 with this then Ten only have themselves to blame.
Families worked well a few seasons back and I was surprised they didn’t do another season of it. Launch it post Masterchef and kick 2015 off with something new!

  3. Good News. No reason this show can’t perform well if other shows are around it.
As for changes families is a good way to go. Hayley is a great host but I would like her to be more involved with the show, get in on some games, get dirty and have some fun. Trainers should stay but maybe try get Jillian and have 4 teams of families. Weigh in/Elimination should be Sundays but the elimination part needs to be short and sweet. Definitely keep temptation as it’s good viewing. I would like to see a special episode on health and how to cook healthy meals

  4. I like Hayley Michelle Shannon and the commando so i would like to see them all stay i think it will be good going back to families it was successful last time

they need to makeover the show for sure but what they really need to do is what has been suggested by TVT commenters and put it on later in the year after master chef so it is not up against the unbeatable the block and MKR

they might as well just show re runs of american sitcoms while MKR and the block are on because nothing will rate master chef the professionals tanked against the block and MKR as did the last 2 seasons of TBL

  5. It certainly needs a makeover but I don’t agree with the host comment. Hayley Lewis had done a great job. However, Michelle Bridges needs to decide if she’s in or out. Her absence made a big difference last year. She either needs to be there full time or replaced.

This years series lacked conflict. Everyone was too friendly. Conflict is what has made past series entertaining.

  6. I liked the Families edition, but that change alone won’t fix the series. The show needs a complete overhaul with a focus on realistic weight loss and how viewers at home can also do it.

I like the idea of resting the show until post MasterChef 2015. However Ten would then need to come up with something new that would be ready to air in early 2015. The other option would be to launch in early January and get a few weeks headstart on the competition.

  7. I would like to see it come back.
Having families compete would be good in the respect that they could all learn together about healthy eating and exercise strategies.

  8. @billy66682 I like that idea, TBL airing in the 2nd half of the year leading into the warmer months when people are thinking about losing a bit of weight to look good for summer. If Ten did do that they would need something for the start of the year, but whatever they do have for the start of the year will still need to be up against MKR and The Block.
I wonder how many families will feature in the show, anymore than 3 and we should be getting a new trainer if the last family edition is an indication.

  9. I think that TBL would be better of latter in the year next year around when MCA finishes because it never will be able to compete with MCR and The Block. 10 need to find something else to put on to compete with those shows.
