Late List results: June

Lengthy Reality shows are still pushing back shows that follow them.

  1. Arrange all your viewing using Windows Media Centre (free with Windows7) and simply add 20mins to every recording. Channel Nine hate WMC. They fought and lost their court action against the IceTV Electronic Program Guide company so now they strategically pick shows that they know will punish viewers if they do not watch live and stick with to the end, such as reality TV type shows and live material. Foxtel also hate WMC because of its easy 30 second skip button on the WMC remote control. If only Foxtel users knew how effective a 30 second skip button really is. To be honest, WMC is like owning your own Foxtel or Television company with absolutely no cost but with all the viewer power to grab from free to air or via download and watch when you want without wasting time viewing commercials. Those who say, this will destroy new programs being created because WMC users do not see the ads…

  2. Yes – got to love US FTA TV. Everything starts and finishes on time (except occasionally when sport runs late), shows stay on the same night of the week, programming information is known months in advance.

Australian FTA TV – start and finish times are as random as lotto results, I don’t know what night anything is usually on anymore as they change so much and programming information is treated like national secrets released usually at the last minute.

  3. I’m sick of it to be honest. When I visited the US about 3 years ago everything started on time. I tuned into GA & it started & finished as advertised. Why does reality dominate in Australia? I guess it’s cheap & ppl continue to watch it.

Meanwhile I love watching dramas and they get delayed all the time. I wish the commercial networks respected the actors in this country.

  4. @Maev – unfortunately, you are correct. While enough people continue to watch despite the considerable disrespect shown toward them, the networks will continue to see how far they can push things.

I made my protest a little while back and don’t watch any Aus commercial TV apart from live sport. Network Ten were the last holdout but even they started stuffing around with start times and scheduling so I gave them the flick too.

  5. Offspring Advertised time: 8:30pm / Actual: 8:45pm

This is the reason I have only watched 1 episode of Offspring this year. We really do have the worst tv industry in this country

  6. Cripes…we are getting beyond just a few minutes now….most of those times are just plain ridiculous….it seems to me, like the networks can basically do whatever they want….not good….
