Film and TV character actor James Shigeta, best known for Die Hard, has died aged 81.

2014-07-30_0151Film and TV character actor James Shigeta, best known for Die Hard and Flower Drum Song, has died aged 81.

The Hawaiian-born actor had scores of film and TV credits from the late 1950s into the 2000s.

He is probably best known for Die Hard, in which he played executive Joseph Takagi, who refuses to give up a security code to a group of terrorists.

Other film roles include The Crimson Kimono, Walk Like A Dragon, Cry For Happy, Bridge To The Sun, Paradise Hawaiian Style, Lost Horizon and Flower Drum Song.

But he had a prolific TV career on shows including Ben Casey, Perry Mason, I Spy, Medical Center, Kung Fu, Ironside, Mission: Impossible, Emergency!, Midway, Little House On The Prairie, Fantasy Island, The Streets of San Francisco, The Love Boat, Magnum, P.I., Simon & Simon, Babylon 5, Cybill and Beverly Hills 90210.

He most recently appeared in the 2009 film The People I’ve Slept With, directed by Quentin Lee.
