Ray Donovan creator will no longer act as showrunner

Showtime reportedly does not renew the contract of Ann Biderman as series showrunner, due to cost overruns.

2014-08-29_1254Ann Biderman, who created Ray Donovan, will not be serving as showrunner on the third season, but shifts to creative consultant.

Deadline reports her contract was not renewed as showrunner while The Hollywood Reporter cites “hefty financial overruns” on the Liev Schreiber series.

Showtime president David Nevins said, “Ann Biderman is a uniquely gifted writer and creator.

“She has done great work on Ray Donovan from her very first pitch through the first two amazing seasons. Ray Donovan has become a signature asset for Showtime, and Ann will continue as a creative consultant on the show. We look forward to continuing our relationship with her.”

Showtime is reportedly negotiating with David Hollander, another of its writer/executive producers, to step up. Hollander (The Cleaner, Heartland and The Guardian) penned the current season’s highest-rated episode.

Biderman also did not remain a showrunner on her previous series, Southland, across its entire run.
