Trio departs Mythbusters after 10 years

Tory Belleci, Kari Byron & Grant Imahara depart as the show charts a return to its origins.

mybMythBusters hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman have announced that three of their build team will not be returning for the 2015 season.

Tory Belleci, Kari Byron and Grant Imahara have been with the series for around a decade.

Byron has been with Mythbusters since 2003, Bellici joined in 2004, and Imahara in 2005.

All three took to Twitter to thank fans and the show.

Byron wrote, “After a decade of the Mythbusters, we are no longer with the show. Thank you to all the fans who have supported us. The show is taking a new direction. It was an amazing run. I learned so much about myself and the world. I love you all @MythBusters. I am sad for an ending but there will be exciting new adventures for us.”

“Thanks @MythBusters for allowing us to teach science in a whole new way. Also, explosions. Now, on to the next adventure!” said Imahara.

Belleci added, “It’s been an amazing ride for 10 years! We couldn’t have done it without you guys. You’re the best fans anyone could wish for. Thank you.”

Next season the show returns to its origins with just Savage and Hyneman. Despite the mutual admiration we may hear more detail on this one later…

  1. I think its good to change things around a bit.

At a talk Jamie and Adam did at comic con this year they talked about how they were going to take the show back to its roots next season, and show more of the building and in a cinematic way.

You can see them talking about and see a new clip of the new style here at the 17.30 mark

  2. I’m wondering if in twelve months time, they’ll announce the 3 of them are returning to Mythbusters.
I’m rather reminded of season 6 of Criminal Minds.

  3. I hope it wasn’t a financial issue that saw them leave but I read else where that Beyond International (based in Sydney) is set to make less profit this year and the show is taking longer to produce less episodes and there have been a number of one off build costs impacting their budget.

I like the big booms but if they can get back to the core of what makes the show great them maybe this will pay off.

That said if less people watch because the younger members of the team have gone then they could end up in more trouble with next seasons ratings.

  4. Gotta say, I don’t understand stand this one bit. I say it smells a lot like a cost-cutting measure.
In fact; I reject their reality and substitute my own.

  5. Not overly upset with this decision, the recaps are annoying as we keep flicking between the two build teams during each show. I enjoyed season one without the recaps.

  6. If by returning to their origins, they mean no more reliance on explosions, then that is a good thing. I stopped watching after the show just became an excuse for blowing stuff up.

  7. Have to think that this is more likely to be a cost-saving measure forced upon them by Discovery Channel and that “Adam and Jamie returning the show to its roots” is a result not the cause.

  8. That sucks.Tori,Kari & Grant were a great working team.
Odd they’d go back to just Jamie & Adam.Going between different myths on the show was good.

  9. I do wonder what happened, they announced some changes last week in a radio interview to promote their current tour.

No sure if this will be good for the show, the younger team is the reason a lot of viewers watch. They will be missed. I hope the team get a new show on Discovery.

As I noted else where the season final that aired with the announcement on the end, this week in the US. Aired on SBS almost 2 years ago, what took them so long to air it on Discovery US?

  10. Nooooo they can’t do that!! Crikey! I didn’t see that coming. They became part of the show and it won’t be the same without them – I began to like their segments better than Jamie and Adam’s anyway. I suppose it’s repeats for me then. 🙂
