Returning: The Blacklist, Agents of SHIELD.

Seven is ramping up Monday nights with returning US shows from next week.

2014-09-22_1044Seven is ramping up Monday nights with the return of The Blacklist and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from next week.

The Blacklist is back at 8:40pm a week after its US premiere.

“Lord Baltimore”
Red continues to battle Berlin and faces a new threat from a man named Lord Baltimore. An important person comes back from the past into Red’s world. Meanwhile, Liz tries to move forward with her life after her showdown with Tom.

Agents of SHIELD
follows at 9:40pm, almost a week after the US premiere.

“Shadows”
In the season premiere, Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources. But with new threats emerging, S.H.I.E.L.D recruits new members to help stop them – but can they be trusted?

Seven is also airing a behind the scenes Blacklist special tomorrow night at 11:35pm.

Both shows will no doubt benefit from promotion during the AFL Grand Final, but as fast-tracked shows will likely be susceptible to US pre-emptions too.

  1. Repeats, except for TBBT, struggle to rate 1/3 of new ep. with viewers under 50. With catch-ups, Hulu and DVDs they have no value and destroy the momentum of shows. US networks are showing blocks episodes like cable around holidays and other other stuff they can show e.g. Thursday Night Football, Red Widow was in a Revenge production break.

Australian networks need popular shows in Feb. to establish lineups for ratings on the back of Summer sports and for Winter when most people are watching. and need to organise them around Australian school holidays and events. It only makes sense to fast-track the first block a few US shows in Oct/Nov. The rest can be shown from Feb. and you catch up with the US after Easter. An of course stuff you don’t need for ratings.

  2. Oh thanks Rayne, that’s good news.

Is the Blacklist special still on tonight? It’s not listed in my guide, there’s some special about the Christchurch earthquake.

  3. This is a promo that aired for greys anatomy last year in the US.

We all know how greys anatomy was treated.

Any excuses not to fast track shows these days are just crap.

  4. Qubec: ” I don’t know why, even when they weren’t “fast” tracking shows they’d pull things off the air and air repeats whenever they felt like it anyway”.

Hasn’t been happening for over five years. Networks used to pad the series out to closer to 40 weeks by inserting repeats here and there, but this is not the case these days. These days the networks actually do air the series largely without breaks unless the program is pre-empted in the US or it bombs with the audience or the rare occasion that the network here has something special to show instead on that night.

  5. Agree with Pertinax & Guy on the scheduling & degree of fast-tracking here. I actually prefer 7-10 days later like what Foxtel do with some of their shows.

I was one of the many who jumped off AoS in that mid-season flat spot last year. Do I regret it? A little. I may revisit the late-season upswing & move into season 2. Not quite certain of its staying power though, especially with fairly long seasons.

  6. It’d be nice to hear if they’re planning to show Agent Carter also. I’m assuming it’s part of the output deal with Disney.
I rather dislike this being on a Monday, it’ll totally conflict with the Eleven lineup.

  7. Wow. Some people really need to get over themselves. Its one week. Nothing wrong with that. At least its not February. Glad to see both shows back. The Blacklist was clearly the best new show last season and Agents of SHIELD did get better as it went on. Can’t wait to see both shows.

  8. Great news, glad they are fast tracking something. For God knows what reason, they refuse to fast track Revenge & Downton Abbey. And don’t get me started on Covert Affairs, we’re 2 seasons behind with it. Why can’t they at least show it on 7Two or 7Mate in the middle of the night?

Is there any word on if the US Amazing Race will be fast tracked? At least 9 are showing Survivor on GO the same day.

  9. The Blacklist started out taking itself seriously. The idea of the list of random baddies you don’t care about being taken out while nothing happen in the overall arc was tedious. It’s only later when they made it all about Red and Elizabeth and Tom etc. and had fun with that that it became interesting.

AOS was just silly. Ward as double agent using an inserted backstory to try and justify it would have been a shoo-in for the Emmy for worse writing. It shed 60% of it viewers by the end of S1. The only hope is that they reboot it into something better for S2.

  10. Seven has W&L doing well on chick night Tues. and Criminal Minds to OK on Wed. They would be crazy to mess with that. Thurs. hardly anybody under 40 is watching live TV (except sport) and they would just waste and kill off their best US show.

So it has to be a week later on Sunday or Monday night. This still leaves Seven no cover for production breaks and will have to wear them.

Monday night is where Seven are struggling and they will get great numbers for The Blacklist there. And inflict a lot of damage on Party Tricks and Big Brother. Nine’s only plan B is TBBT.

It is fast compared to Revenge, Arrow, etc. Ten will be doing the most fast-tracking because they have no alternatives now.

  11. Agents of Shield got a lot better around episode 17 when it was revealed Agent Ward was a traitor working against the team from episode one. It became almost an entirely new show after that.

The Blacklist bores me, I tuned out after a few weeks, too much of a procedural, not enough serialised stories

  12. Both The Blacklist and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D suffered from the same issue – they started out well enough but then got silly. I love James Spader but he wasn’t enough to counteract the plot-holes and Seven’s variable start time policy.

  13. The Blacklist is brilliant, definitely worth fast-tracking. Agent Of Shield, however, is really not working for me at all, the cast don’t grab me, or the stories… a real waste to fast-track that!

  14. @cnrmlj- well said!
A week should hardly be considered fast-tracked. Especially for a show like AoS, which would have a young, tech-savvy audience. Pre-emptions are indeed less frequent than they once were in America. And if networks are so worried about them (I don’t know why, even when they weren’t “fast” tracking shows they’d pull things off the air and air repeats whenever they felt like it anyway), they just need to be upfront with their communication with their audience and get creative with programming.

  15. A week later is a joke.

Pre-emotions rarely happen these days in the U.S. if the show has a planned break as happens throughout the season they can just show a repeat of a previous episode. Not that big of a deal. Will also get people regularly tuning in at the same day and time. This is what happens in the US.
